Dr. Ganna Yudkivska is one of the newest members of the ILSA Board of Directors. Ganna is a Partner at EQUITY Law Firm, UN Mandate Holder - Vice-Chair of the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, and Vice-President of the European Society of International Law. From 2010 to 2022 she served as a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights, including as Vice-President and Section President.
She graduated magna cm laude from the Law Faculty of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, earned a Master 2 in Law and European Studies from UniversitΓ© Strasbourg III, and holds a PhD from the Academy of Advocacy of Ukraine, where she remains Associate Professor of European and International Law.
Before her election to Strasbourg, Dr. Yudkivska served as Adviser to the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights (2009β2010) and as a lawyer at the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights (2005β2009). She was admitted to the Kyiv Bar in 2003 and represented victims of torture and political persecution before domestic and international tribunals. From 1996 to 2001 she directed Steven Spielberg's project on genocide studies (Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation) in Ukraine and Moldova.
Dr. Yudkivska has lectured and conducted research at Harvard, Columbia, Heidelberg, Cologne, Washington University in St. Louis, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Chuo University in Tokyo, and other leading institutions. She sat on the panel for the Final Round of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in 2024. She is a Life Member of the European Society of International Law, a member of the American Society of International Law, and serves on the Advisory Board of the European Convention on Human Rights Law Review. She has authored numerous scientific articles on human rights, international law, and criminal procedure.
