Next Gen Journalism is back!
We've changed our name (slightly), and today we add five new members to our 600+ member community.
In two weeks, we will head back to Iowa Public Radio, and we congratulate these five rising journalists and media makers to our program:

Susannah Crichton will be in Des Moines. Her mentor for the project will be Iowa Public Radio Government reporter Katarina Sostaric
Lily Fleming will be in Des Moines. Her mentor will be Next Gen alumna Lucia Cheng, who is a Service/Trending Reporter for the Des Moines Register
Neve Kelley will be in Iowa City, and her mentor will be Dani Gehr, Talk Show Producer, Iowa Public Radio
Nick Jackson will be in Iowa City, and his mentor will be Next Gen alumna and Iowa Public Radio Digital Producer Natalie Dunlap
Joyanna Huang will be in Des Moines, and her mentor for the program is Mariana Dale, Senior reporter covering K-12 Education for LAist in Los Angeles, CA

Our storytelling theme remains, "Moments of Truth." Our reporters pitched their own ideas for someone who would explain an event/action that altered their life.

Next Gen Journalism is now taking applications for our 2026 projects!

We will remain an audio-focused professional development project, but we are expanding our reach. We have already rebranded (slightly) and are creating an independent nonprofit that will include a business incorporation and a fiscal sponsorship.
This is year 26 for us.
Since 2013, we have grown into a broad media- and journalism-focused community that includes 526 alumni from the 93 sprints we have produced over the past 13 years.
If interested, visit www.nextgenradio.org to access the online application and all the information you need, including our tentative schedule and locations.

Yes, the name change was intentional, and our commitment to non-profit public service is strong.

Until next time.
