A major win for fair housing enforcement.

A federal judge has blocked HUD’s attempt to overhaul the Fair Housing Initiatives Program, a move that would have defunded more than 100 community-based fair housing organizations and put critical services at risk.

NFHA and the Massachusetts Fair Housing Center challenged HUD’s FY2025 funding notices in court. Today, our request for a temporary restraining order was granted, vacating HUD’s FY2025 funding notices and directing the agency to use its FY2024 funding structure.

This ruling means fair housing organizations can continue serving people who need help challenging housing discrimination in their communities.

The case isn’t over. We will continue fighting to ensure fair housing funding reaches the organizations doing this important work in communities across the country.

Every child deserves a home they can safely access and enjoy.

For families of children with disabilities, reasonable modifications can help make that possible, allowing children to safely navigate their homes and participate in everyday life.

Local fair housing organizations help families understand their rights and advocate for the changes they need.

Seven federal regulators are rolling back support for Special Purpose Credit Programs, putting at risk programs that have helped expand fair access to credit and homeownership.

SPCPs have helped underserved communities access homeownership and build wealth after generations of discrimination shut people out of the housing market.

NFHA strongly condemns this rollback and the threat it poses to fair lending protections at a time when families are already facing rising housing and lending costs.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: WASHINGTON, D.C.—The National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) strongly condemns the Trump Administration’s latest attack on key civil rights protections and affordable access to mortgages and lending for all people in the United States. The CFPB is a critical line of defense against discrimination and abuse in lending and financial services. Now, Congress is considering legislation that would weaken the agency and roll back its ability to protect consumers.

After the 2008 financial crisis devastated communities of color, NFHA helped push for the CFPB and its Office of Fair Lending and Equal Opportunity. Today, as families face a fair and affordable housing crisis, that work is more important than ever.

That’s why NFHA joined dozens of consumer, community and civil rights organizations in urging Congress to reject the CFPB Reform Act of 2026.

Today, dozens of consumer, community, and civil rights organizations, sent a letter to the House Financial Services Committee urging them to reject the CFPB Reform Act of 2026, a new proposal that, if passed, would severely limit the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) ability to hold bi...

For veterans living with disabilities, fair housing protections can help make it possible to feel at home and connected to the community again.

Reasonable accommodations can provide meaningful support when a disability affects someone’s ability to fully use and enjoy their home.

These protections matter, and so does the work of making sure people know their rights and can access the accommodations they need.

Transparency is essential to fair lending enforcement.

The CFPB’s decision to stop making consumer complaint narratives publicly available will make patterns of discrimination and consumer harm harder to see, investigate, and address.

Protecting fair housing and lending rights requires transparency, accountability, and the tools to identify discrimination when it happens.
