We’re grateful to the Phillip and Edith Leonian Foundation Phillip and Edith Leonian Foundation for supporting our Speaker Series and helping make this program possible.

Thanks to their commitment to documentary photography, photographic education, and career development, we’ll be able to bring our speakers into three schools—creating opportunities for students to engage directly with photographers and the stories they tell through their work.

The Foundation’s mission to raise awareness of and appreciation for photography aligns deeply with our own, and we’re honored to have their support.

Looking to grow your skills, expand your network, or give back to the next generation of photographers?

Our mentorship program connects members for ongoing support, collaboration, and conversation. Mentors and mentees are paired based on interests and goals, with monthly group meetings and encouraged one-on-one check-ins throughout the program.

Whether you want guidance on a specific project, help navigating the industry, or simply a space to ask questions and learn from someone with more experience, this program is designed to support meaningful connections and growth.

Interested in participating as a mentor or mentee? We’d love to have you join us.

What Comes Next? Part 2 — A Planning Workshop for Visual Journalists

📅 Date: Thursday, April 9 2026
⏰ Time: 9:30am–4:00 PM
✅ RSVP: https://partiful.com/e/pspuAPO2j91zhSJCE9cw

Recent layoffs and changes across Washington newsrooms have left many photojournalists, video journalists, and editors navigating new questions about their work and careers.

WPOW launched What Comes Next as a space to respond — bringing the community together to share practical guidance, compare notes, and support one another through a rapidly shifting landscape.

Part 2 builds on that effort with a focus on working with editors, identifying project and grant opportunities, and strengthening how you present your experience and skills.

You’ll hear directly from editors and freelancers, gain practical tools for resumes and career direction, and have time throughout the day to connect with colleagues.

Schedule highlights:
• Editors panel
• Projects and grants
• Resume and career counseling
• Freelancers panel
• Lunch + closing happy hour

Open to Washington-area photographers, video journalists, and editors at any stage of transition. Whether you attended Part 1 or are joining for the first time, you are very welcome!

Coffee, lunch, and happy hour included.

The next generation of photojournalists is already paying attention. 📸

Students at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication have been engaging with the WPOW exhibition for months—and this week they had the chance to meet Jocelyn Augustino, president of Women Photojournalists of Washington.

Jocelyn spent the day visiting classes, giving a public talk, and meeting with students interested in careers in visual journalism. These moments—when working professionals connect directly with emerging journalists—are exactly what helps the field grow.

WPOW is proud to support photographers at every stage of their careers, especially those just beginning their journey.
