COCE wishes you a Happy Caribbean American Heritage Month!

Caribbean American Heritage Month was adopted in 2006 to honor the contributions and the significant impacts Caribbean Americans have had on the U.S.

The U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate adopted this resolution introduced by Congresswoman Barbara Lee. Former President George W. Bush declared through presidential proclamation that Caribbean American Heritage Month would be celebrated in June.

Some notable Caribbean Americans include Alexander Hamilton, Shirley Chisholm, and Colin Powell.

Today we celebrate Equal Opportunity Day, also known as Gettysburg Address Day—a tradition that began in 1956 to honor President Abraham Lincoln’s timeless words at the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

In 2025, as our society continues to evolve, the journey toward equal opportunity and fairness remains as relevant as ever. Today is a reminder of the progress we’ve made and a call to action for the work still ahead to protect the values of diversity, inclusion, and equity for all.

COCE acknowledges National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is designed to educate the public, draw attention to the problem of poverty, and build up the base of volunteers and supporters for local anti-poverty agencies.

As the holidays approach, we should take time to consider what we're thankful for and we hope you choose to donate some of your time, attention, and resources to others.
