🇧🇬 ПРЕССЪОБЩЕНИЕ / PRESS RELEASE

* предоставяне на подходящо помещение;
* съдействие от българската общност и Българското училище;
* предварително записване и информационна кампания;
* подкрепа и координация на място по време на консулските дни.

We Initiate the Organization of Mobile Consular Services on Nantucket Island, MA

Dear Bulgarian community members,

The Bulgarian Congress of the USA has officially submitted a request to the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in New York, proposing the organization of Mobile Consular Days on Nantucket Island in2026.

📍 More than 500 Bulgarian citizens reside on Nantucket, where the considerable distance to the nearest Consulate General in New York makes access to essential administrative and notary services difficult.

The Bulgarian Congress and the local community have expressed full readiness to support the initiative by:
* providing an appropriate venue;
* offering logistical support through the Bulgarian community and the Bulgarian Educational Center and the Bulgarian Sunday School;
* conducting pre-registration and outreach;
* coordinating and assisting on-site during the consular mission.
An initial list of interested applicants has been submitted together with the letter, with more names added daily.

🤝 We believe that, through cooperation with the Consulate General, Bulgarians on the Island will receive timely and convenient access to the consular services they need.

We had the great honor and genuine pleasure of spending a memorable evening at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Washington, D.C., in the company of distinguished Bulgarian scholar and educator Prof. Evelina Kelbetcheva, Ph.D. 🇧🇬, her colleague and former student Prof. Nora Dimitrova-Clinton 🇧🇬🇺🇸, and Prof. Kevin Clinton, Ph.D. 🇺🇸

During the event, we screened Prof. Kelbetcheva’s powerful documentary "Debris of one Afternoon”, which transported us back to the dramatic days following one of the most fateful dates in Bulgarian history — April 16th, 1925, when the "Saint Nedelya" Cathedral in Sofia was bombed. The attack claimed the lives of dozens of innocent people. The documentary is based entirely on archival materials and was produced with the support of the American Research Center in Sofia - ARCS Foundation and its partner organization in the United States, the American Research Center in Bulgaria Inc.

Prof. Evelina Kelbetcheva is Professor Emerita at the American University in Bulgaria - AUBG 🇺🇸 🇧🇬, where she taught European, Balkan, and Bulgarian History. Her academic path includes specializations at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. 🇺🇸 and Yad Vashem: World Holocaust Center, Jerusalem in Israel 🇮🇱. She is the screenwriter and producer of “The Second Liberation /Occupation of Bulgaria by the Red Army”. She is widely recognized for her exceptional contributions to the study of historical myths, falsifications, cultural identity, and the challenges of historical memory.

A truly inspiring evening — filled with history, reflection, and meaningful conversation. 🇧🇬🇺🇸

🇧🇬 The Bulgarian Congress of the USA proudly honors His Excellency Stephan Panaretoff – Bulgaria’s first Ambassador to the United States (1914–1925) – celebrating his remarkable achievements, inspiring leadership, and enduring legacy.

Today, we visited the Rock Creek Cemetery, where we paid our respects at the graves of Mr. and Mrs. Panaretoff.

Mrs. Lydia Gail Panaretoff (1869 - 1931) and H.E. Ambassador Stephan Panaretoff (1853 - 1931) bequeathed their entire fortune, amounting to approximately 5 million leva, to support Bulgarian educational and cultural development. They donated all their funds and securities held in Bulgarian banking institutions to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. They also provided funds for scholarships for students of Bulgarian philology at the Sofia University, for scholarships for pupils from high schools in Sofia, for sending poor students to summer school colonies, for assisting impoverished teachers, for enriching the collections of the National Library in Sofia, and for other similar purposes.

As of October 2025, White House tours are temporarily suspended indefinitely due to extensive renovations. In the interim, visitors can explore the free White House Visitor Center, which features exhibits on the history of the White House and its occupants, as well as a copy of the true Oval Office of the President of the United States.

A major renovation of the Oval Office at the Visitor Center was completed in July 2025. Visitors now have the opportunity to see the original decor of the Oval Office during President Donald Trump's first term.

We cannot provide tickets for visitors as we do not have information on when the building will be open to guests again.

We`ll keep you informed!

🇺🇸 🇧🇬 The Magic of Bulgarian Folklore in Pittsburgh!

We had the joy and pleasure of experiencing the magnificent performances of “Sredets” Folklore Dance Ensemble Танцов ансамбъл Средец — the oldest ensemble in Bulgaria, founded back in 1937. The group is currently on a creative tour in the United States, sharing the beauty of Bulgarian traditions across the ocean.

📍 The Bulgarian Congress of the United States attended their concert at the Bulgarian-Macedonian Cultural Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - the oldest and still active Bulgarian Culture Centre in the United States . The stage came alive with rhythm, color, and authentic Bulgarian folklore.

💃🕺 Joining the children from “Sredets” on stage were the dancers from “Otets Paisii” Folklore Ensemble, part of the Otets Paisii Bulgarian School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

🤝 Our Founder and First President, Mr. Pete Kristofferson, is also proud co-founder of the Otets Paisii Bulgarian School in Pittsburgh — a true testament to the strong connection between the community and our cultural heritage.

🌟 We look forward to the next beautiful performances of “Sredets” Ensemble in America!
