Learning about careers is critical for college-bound students. Knowledge of professional pathways--and what it takes to get there--sets scholars up for success. College students who have a career goal are more engaged with learning and are better able to plan their courses to make the most of their credit hours. SEED schools have exciting career learning opportunities, such as SEED LA's partnership with LA Metro, and SEED Miami's senior internship program!

This weekend, graduates from SEED DC's founding classes gathered to connect and reflect with Lesley Poole on the legacy and community she has built in her time with SEED. These early graduates share an experience like no other--as the first students of the nation's first urban, public, college-prep boarding school, they forged bonds only a 24-hour learning environment can foster. The SEED DC classes of 2004-2006 got to look back on their time at SEED, and to celebrate their many accomplishments!

Newly minted college graduate DeeCurry Buckman (SEED DC ’23, Arizona State University ’26) took the time to tell us about her SEED experience, her college success, and the goals for academic and professional success she is reaching for next. An enthusiastic, fast-track learner, DeeCurry pushed herself to graduate from the ASU Local program in Washington, D.C., in just three years! During her time at SEED, DeeCurry built deep relationships that remain a touchstone as she navigates her path to success.

Flying into the long weekend thinking about this memorable moment from SEED LA's groundbreaking Class of 2026's graduation, when Dr. Theresa Price, CEO of the National College Resources Foundation (NCRF), brought the house down with her announcement that each member of SEED LA’s first graduates was awarded a $1,000 scholarship!

“This class did not just graduate—they made history,” said Dr. Theresa Price, Founder and CEO of NCRF. “Every single one of these 42 young people is college-bound, and NCRF is honored to walk beside them as they take that next step. This scholarship is our promise that their journey does not end at the stage. It begins there, and we will be with them the whole way.”

NCRF partnered with McKallen Medical Training and Fifth Third Bank to make this truly amazing act of generosity possible. Like The SEED Foundation, NCRF believes in supporting students through college and career success. We are so grateful to have partners like this in building pathways to success!

Career exposure opportunities helped give shape to SEED Foundation Scholarship recipient Analy's (SEED Miami '26) future career aspirations. "SEEDs partnership with Girls, Inc. and Greater Miami Links gave me career exposure and meet women in these fields, and helped me understand the field I want to pursue. Analy plans to earn her undergraduate degree then head straight to medical school on her path to becoming an anesthesiologist.
