Janell (SEED Miami '25, Xavier University of Louisiana '29) used her time at SEED Miami taking advantage of every opportunity she could, learning inside and outside the classroom. As she continues to thrive on her path to a college degree, she remembers her years at SEED Miami as a special experience.

At SEED LA, student’s stories take center stage. Ms. Jenoyne Horton, English department chair and director of film and theater at SEED LA, encourages her students see the power in and take control of their narratives.
One of her proudest moments at SEED LA was seeing her students perform their play "Amicus Mortus: Dead Homie" on a professional stage to wide acclaim.

The scholar-athletes that Coach Edward Green at SEED MD guided to the State Championship last year exemplified dedication, accountability, teamwork, and shared vision. Basketball Coach and Dean of Students Coach Green knows the life lessons these scholars demonstrate on the court will carry through life.

“We use sports as a vehicle to help young people navigate life. Those lessons carry directly into the classroom and their futures.”

A major measure of success for Coach Green is that every graduating senior from last year's team enrolled in college this fall—and they will bring with them the perseverance they practiced at SEED MD under his mentorship.

As Director of Partnerships & Programs, Dr. LaMar Bagley creates pathways for SEED DC scholars to build confidence, practical skills, and curiosity. Through campus jobs, carpentry projects, and external internships, scholars learn that persistence leads to success.

"It isn’t a passive experience; it’s an engaging experience that you have to persevere through," says Dr. Bagley. “Things might get hard, but you don’t just quit. People are counting on you, and you should count on yourself."

When John DeHaarte (SEED Miami '22, Florida A&M '26) moved to Tallahassee, he intentionally pushed himself to reach beyond his comfort zone--and it has paid off. He has built strong relationships on campus and taken advantage of myriad opportunities. Already an award-winning artist for his graphic design, John is beginning his career with experience and confidence.
