Understanding domestic colonialism is key to understanding why our communities continuously face crises, slow emergency responses, and poor living conditions. Observing the parallels between our conditions here in DC and the conditions of other domestically colonized or oppressed peoples helps to build the mass movement we need to challenge State power and strive for collective liberation.

Last Sunday, community members gathered for our People’s Community Health Walk, followed by our August People’s Pan-African Wellness Front. Folks were able to get outside, get active, and then get engaged with health services, mutual aid efforts, yoga, free groceries, and political education around what community control over health could look like.

Join us next time as we continue to cultivate a culture of care, solidarity, and self determination in Southeast DC. PACA understands that as our communities continue to face disinvestment, our health is our collective responsibility and how we organize must reflect the needs and interests of those most impacted.

Reminder! Tomorrow, August 26th, join us for our final Black August session of the month in collaboration with mxgmdc : Manufacturing Consent. Together, we will examine how schools, media, entertainment, and political institutions manufacture consent for policing and mass incarceration by criminalizing Black youth and erasing the history of revolutionary struggle and political imprisonment. We will explore how these narratives legitimize state repression and shape public understanding of prison, while discussing how community control of education, media literacy, and political history can help build a new generation committed to liberation.

DC’s curfew laws expose the limitations of the State’s ability to provide for the needs of our young people. Disinvestment is met with overpolicing and surveillance. Police presences heightened the pre-existing tensions between Black communities and law enforcement. All the while, gentrification, inflation, and mass layovers push Black families further into crisis, forcing parents to work longer hours in order to support basic needs. It’s time the question of public safety be handed over to the community instead of the multi-hundred-million dollar armed occupational force. Young people deserve to be the center of society, not casted to the side and dismissed.

Black August requires us not only to remember political prisoners, but to understand the systems that made their imprisonment possible and continue to criminalize resistance today.

Join us for our final Black August session of the month in collaboration with mxgmdc : Manufacturing Consent.

Participatory democracy means more than submitting a vote and hoping for the best. It means people having a direct say in how a community is governed and where resources should be going.

Save the date for our People’s Assembly- Building a People’s Democracy: A Southeast Community Townhall, if you’re interested in what participatory democracy looks like when put in practice.

Join PACA for our monthly People’s Pan-African Wellness Front as we continue building a culture of care, solidarity, and self-determination in our community. The PPWF provides free blood pressure screenings, health information, hygiene supplies, and space to connect with neighbors and organizers committed to improving the health and well-being of our people.

This month’s schedule includes chair yoga starting at 1:30 pm and a “Know Your Numbers: A Quick Guide to Explaining Your Lab Results” training from 2:00 – 3:30 pm. Groceries, Plan B, hygiene kits, and preventative health information will be available all day.

Our communities continue to face disinvestment, displacement, and barriers to quality healthcare; we believe wellness is a collective responsibility.

This Sunday, August 23, 12-3 pm at the RISE Demonstration Center (2730 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE, Washington, DC 20032)

What would it look like if Southeast D.C. residents had a direct say in the decisions and resources that shape our communities? Join Pan-African Community Action (PACA) for Building a People’s Democracy—a People’s Assembly where Southeast residents will engage in participatory democracy. This is a space for community decision-making, not just community input. Participants will review three proposed community projects and their budgets, discuss possible changes, and vote on which project will receive community funding and support.

Together, we’ll discuss community priorities, learn about PACA’s Community Control DC platform, and demonstrate what it can look like when working-class Black communities have a direct role in the decisions that affect us.

* Vote on a community project
* Participate in democratic budgeting
* Discuss community needs and priorities
* Learn about Community Control DC

People’s democracy means more than having a voice. It means having the power to decide.

Join us for an evening of political education, solidarity, and collective action focused on the struggle to free political prisoners. From the United States to Palestine and liberation movements around the world, political imprisonment has long been used as a tool of colonialism, imperialism, and state repression. This program will bring together organizations and organizers to discuss the histories and present-day realities of political prisoners, the movements fighting for their freedom, and the importance of building international solidarity across our struggles.

Through presentations and collective discussion, we will explore what connects these struggles and what they teach us about confronting political repression and strengthening liberation movements today.

The program will also serve as a fundraiser for political prisoner campaigns. Our goal is to collectively raise at least $1,000 to directly support political prisoners and the campaigns working for their freedom.
