This Mother's Day, we’re celebrating mothers like Mrs. Leam Teng in 🇰🇭 — women who have lived for years alongside the fear of landmines.

Leam remembers her own mother searching for natural medicine and once discovering a landmine hidden in the area.

“Living near the minefield feels like standing at the edge of a cliff, filled with fear all the time,” she shared.

To date, The HALO Trust Cambodia has cleared more than 200 acres – or about 167 football fields – of land here, and safely removed 400 explosives from this community.

Today, her community is becoming safer and full of new opportunity. Families are building homes, opening businesses, and looking toward a brighter future.

Every mother deserves the peace of knowing her family is safe. Your support can help make that possible. Give today: https://bit.ly/halousa-give

Last month on Capitol Hill, the bipartisan UXO/Demining Caucus marked International Mine Awareness Day with a reception and exhibition to recognize U.S. achievements and leadership in global and weapons security.

Attendees heard from Caucus Co-Chair Rep. David Valadao, Caucus member and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Brian Mast, Program Manager of the U.S. Army's Strategic and Low Intensity Conflict Demining program Mr. Sean Burke, and State Department Political-Military Affairs Bureau Senior Bureau Official, Mr. Stanley Brown.

The event also brought together other dedicated members of the demining sector, including MAG (Mines Advisory Group), APOPO, Legacies of War, PeaceTrees VietNam, Marshall Legacy Institute, Humanity & Inclusion US, Golden West, and Center for International Stabilization and Recovery - CISR.

We warmly thank the Caucus, and Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. David Valadao and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan for hosting the event, and for all the speakers' remarks on how clearing and other explosives saves lives and makes the United States, and the whole world, safer and stronger.

Prince Harry recently visited one of our humanitarian demining programs in 🇺🇦 and saw something powerful: lives beginning to change.

Across the country, explosive remnants of war still threaten families, farmers, and children going about their daily lives. Land that should be used for growing food or rebuilding communities remains unsafe.

But thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, that is changing.

HALO teams are working every day to carefully clear dangerous land, helping families return home and communities move forward. With the support of innovative technology, this work is happening faster and more safely than ever before.

In 🇭🇳, old weapons stockpiles don't just gather dust. They put lives at risk.

Behind closed doors, aging weapons and unstable stockpiles can explode without warning, endangering soldiers, families, and local communities. When not stored properly, weapons and ammunition stockpiles are also vulnerable to illicit diversion to criminals and narco-traffickers.

With support from the 🇺🇸 Embajada de Estados Unidos en Tegucigalpa, HALO partnered with the Honduran Armed Forces Universidad de Defensa de Honduras UDH to enable them to manage their weapon and ammunition stockpiles, creating:

✅ Safer storage depots
✅ Weapons stockpile management training courses for 20 security officers
✅ A new national inspection team to assess storage facilities for risks

"With HALO, we have developed capabilities that benefit the population. They provide the knowledge to manage, operate and store explosive devices and weapons that, once no longer fit for purpose, can be safely disposed of," says Brigadier General Walter Irán Amador, Rector of the Honduran Defense University.

Safely managing weapons and ammunition prevents unplanned explosions, stops criminals from stealing guns and ammunition, and creates a more stable Honduras.

Oleksandra Matviichuk, a Ukrainian Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights lawyer at the Center for Civil Liberties, visited a in Zalissia.

The village, part of the Brovary district in the Kyiv region, along with the Bucha and Vyshhorod districts, found itself at the center of intense fighting in early 2022. After de-occupation, communities faced a deadly threat – and unexploded ordnance buried in homes, fields, and even on main roads. Families were urged not to return to their homes because of this invisible danger.

🌿 We have been clearing the area for nearly four years, returning the land to local communities one field at a time. Families are coming back, rebuilding their homes, and farming their land again.

But, in Ukraine and many other places, landmines still linger. The work is far from over.

For years, the chairs in a small blue church sat empty.

But that has finally changed.

On Puvarasanthivu Island in 🇱🇰, landmines made it too dangerous to reach a church that once brought a community together. Families were unable to gather, fish, or worship safely.

HALO teams began clearing the land in 2024. Over 20 months, they faced toxic tree sap. Extreme heat and flooding. Even venomous caterpillars 🐛

Despite these abundant dangers, the island is now safe.

For the first time in decades, parishioners returned—by boat at sunrise—to celebrate together again.

“This year is special because the landmines are gone," said local fisherman Edward Rukulan. "We’re not afraid anymore."

This is what your support makes possible: not just cleared land, but a community coming home.
