We strongly condemn this brutal, unprovoked assault by illegal Israeli settlers on a photojournalist with The The Washington Post and Palestinian olive harvesters. We also condemn the Israeli soldiers who enabled this violence and then pursued Palestinians who tried to protect Heidi Levine from the settler terrorists.

The fact that a Washington Post journalist is not safe is the latest sign that Palestinians in the occupied West Bank are certainly not safe from such acts of terrorism. This horrific violence is part of a systemic, state-backed campaign of terror designed to drive Palestinians from their land and suppress the documentation of ongoing human rights abuses in the illegally-occupied West Bank.

Many of these settlers also carry American-made assault ri**es provided by the Israeli government and funded by the American taxpayer. The Trump administration, Congress and the international community must hold the Israeli government and the settler terrorists it enables accountable for these escalating crimes against civilians and journalists.

Three years ago today, six-year-old Wadea Al Fayoume was brutally murdered. We pray that God honors him with paradise and grants solace to his family and loved ones. Wadea was murdered by a man motivated by the same hatred that inspired the attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego earlier this year.

It is the same hatred that has motivated the Israeli government to slaughter tens of thousands of Palestinians and Gaza. It is the same hatred that is spewed by the White House and numerous political leaders and media figures – and it is on the rise. Three years after the horrific murder of Wadea Al Fayoume, anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate are stronger than ever.

Today, we are reminded of the real-world consequences of this hateful ideology. All elected officials and leaders across our nation must speak out in repudiation of this hatred.

We cannot comprehend how any political leader with a conscience could continue to fund the sheer cruelty of the Israeli government and the war criminals who carry out its orders. Not again. President Trump must reject Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest attempt to pressure our nation into launching more illegal, disastrous attacks on Iran.

Over the past year, this illegal war of choice waged for Israel’s benefit has resulted in nothing other than the slaughter of thousands of Iranians and other civilians across the region, the deaths of over 20 American soldiers, and an economic crisis that threatens our nation and the world.

Congress must pass the Iran War Powers Resolution before Netanyahu and warmongers within the Trump administration convince the President to fully restart an illegal, unnecessary and deadly war with Iran.
