“We welcome this important decision allowing Ms. Sayed’s lawsuit to move forward,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry.

“Public schools cannot treat Palestine-related expression as uniquely punishable while allowing other political, cultural, or humanitarian messages. The First Amendment does not contain a Palestine exception. No educator should be singled out, threatened, or silenced simply for acknowledging Palestinian identity, culture, or humanity. This case has significant implications for teachers, students, and public employees across the country who have faced selective censorship of Palestine-related speech.”

MASSIVE WIN IN NEW JERSEY! 📢 Congratulations to Dr. Adam Hamawy on winning the NJ-12 Democratic Primary!

Despite a flood of corporate Super PAC dark money, the grassroots prevailed. Dr. Hamawy, a combat veteran and humanitarian surgeon, built a powerful movement centered on community, justice, and human rights.

His platform of “”Healthcare, Not Bombs”” and defending working families is exactly the courageous leadership we need in D.C. Next stop: November! 🗳️

Tomorrow, God willing, we will hold a press conference to announce the filing of a lawsuit challenging Virginia’s Fairfax County Public Schools and the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology decision to investigate and suspend Muslim and Arab students for participating in a viral video trend while not punishing other students who participated in the same or similar trends.

The lawsuit alleges that the school’s discriminatory actions violate the First and Fourteenth Amendments, as well as Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Israeli settlers beat an American citizen to the point of death on his family’s land in the occupied West Bank. Working with the Israeli army, the settlers then blocked an ambulance from reaching him for four hours. He died. His name was Sayfollah Musallet. Hours earlier, the settlers shot his best friend, Mohamed Sheleby, in the back. He died, too.

Who is the terrorist? The Israeli settlers and soldiers who steal, pillage and murder under the protection of an apartheid government, or the two young men who were murdered for walking on their own land as Palestinians?

The latest CAIR on AIR featuring an interview with Sayfollah’s father is out today. Check it out: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cair-on-air-beyond-the-courtroom-and-behind-the-headlines/id1888095329?i=1000770970431

“Say, (O Prophet Muhammad,) ‘Sufficient is God as a Witness between me and you. He (fully) knows whatever is in the heavens and the earth. And those who believe in falsehood and disbelieve in God, it is they who are the (true) losers.’” The Noble Quran, 29:52

We strongly condemn the Israeli apartheid government for banning Linda Sarsour from visiting her family, her friends, and her homeland in occupied Palestine.

This act of sheer racism that the Netanyahu regime has perpetrated against Linda Sarsour is nothing new. Israel has spent years preventing Palestinians around the world, even Palestinian-Americans like Linda, from visiting their families and their lands. The Israeli government has even banned Jewish Americans who dare to criticize the country’s ongoing history of apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide.

This is unacceptable. Apartheid Israel does not have the moral or legal right to cut off Palestinian-Americans from their families and loved ones living under occupation. It is long past time for our government to defend the rights of American citizens and others to visit Palestine without interference.

Every student should be able to peacefully express their deeply-held beliefs about injustice, human rights, and the suffering of others without fear of censorship or retaliation. Graduation speeches have long served as a platform for students to reflect on the challenges facing their generation and the world they are inheriting.

Whether one agrees with Leen Hijaz’s views or not, interrupting a valedictorian for calling attention to humanitarian crises and the plight of immigrant families sends a troubling message that certain perspectives are unwelcome in public discourse. Schools should encourage thoughtful civic engagement, not suppress it.

We commend Leen Hijaz for demonstrating the moral courage to speak out on behalf of people whose voices are too often ignored. We urge school officials to respect students’ constitutional rights and to ensure that no punitive action is taken against her for engaging in peaceful expression.

Congress is working to pass a bill that would integrate the U.S and Israeli armies, furthering our entrentchment in war crimes. Contact your members of congress and tell them to vote NO on the Israel First Section 224 of the NDAA. bit.ly/224-ndaa

“Congress should not advance legislation that would further merge America’s military infrastructure, weapons development, and defense technology with Israel,” said Robert S. McCaw, Government Affairs Department Director at CAIR. “At a time when U.S.-supplied weapons have contributed to the destruction of entire neighborhoods, hospitals, schools, and places of worship in Gaza, lawmakers should be demanding greater accountability, not creating new mechanisms for deeper military integration. Section 224 threatens to lock future generations into an unprecedented military partnership that weakens congressional oversight, reduces transparency, and places American defense policy on a path increasingly intertwined with the priorities of the genocidal state of Israel. The American people deserve a foreign policy that answers to them, not one that further entrenches endless military entanglements abroad.”

Public schools cannot create a “Palestine exception” to the First Amendment. That’s why a federal court just ruled in favor of CAIR Legal Defense Fund’s client, teacher Hiba Sayed. Her free speech lawsuit against the Montgomery County Public School system can now proceed to trial.

CAIR LDF sued Montgomery County Public Schools after the school district banned Ms. Sayed from displaying a Palestine flag alongside other international flags outside her clasroom, barred from wearing a keffiyeh, and added a specific contract provision prohibiting her from referencing Palestine in any way.

The court today ruled that Ms. Sayed has plausibly alleged that MCPS violated her constitutional rights by selectively restricting Palestine-related expression while allowing other teachers and staff to engage in various similar political and cultural expressions.

No educator, student, or public employee should be threatened, punished, or silenced simply for acknowledging Palestinian identity, culture, or humanity.

The case now moves forward.
