📣 Democracy is strongest when communities know how to use their voice.

🤝 With your support, this month brought civic education workshops to more than 200 sangat members across six Gurmat camps, equipping Sikh youth and adults with the knowledge and tools to understand the issues shaping our communities and to participate meaningfully in our democracy.

🗳️ Civic participation is not limited to . It starts with understanding what is at stake, knowing how our institutions work, and recognizing the power communities have to shape public life.

📚Every student deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported at school.

💭 to when SALDEF partnered with cartoonist and animator, Vishavjit Singh, to help Sikh American students and families recognize bullying, understand their rights, and know how to report incidents.

🍎 That work was later informed by findings from SALDEF’s 2020 National Survey, reinforcing a critical point: addressing bullying requires more than awareness. It requires ensuring students and families have the knowledge and resources to recognize harm and respond effectively.

Today, we honor the lives of the seven members of the sangat who were killed in the August 5, 2012, white supremacist attack on the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin.
Their memory continues to guide our work to confront hate, strengthen our communities, and ensure every person can live and worship without fear.
