Registration is now open for the 2026 NYEC D.C. Summit: Bridging Practice to Policy. Join us in Washington, D.C., September 21–23.

Millions of young people need stronger connections to stable career pathways, yet federal workforce policy is often shaped without the voices closest to the work. The D.C. Summit, formerly known as Youth Days, was created to change that.

Workforce practitioners, community leaders, and young people from across the country will come together to learn, build connections, and engage directly with Congressional offices and federal agencies.

Be part of the conversation shaping workforce policy. Register today and help bridge practice to policy for young people nationwide.

We are honored. April 1 is now officially National Youth Employment Coalition Day in the City of Houston.

During his keynote at our 2026 Annual Forum, City of Houston Mayor’s Office, John Whitmire proclaimed the date in recognition of NYEC’s work connecting young people to education, training, and employment opportunity across the country. This proclamation represents the hundreds of members and coalition partners we are proud to work alongside as well as the work they do to serve young people.

“Young people are not separate from the future of our economy; they are its foundation. The strength of any city depends on whether its young people can see a future for themselves and access the opportunities to build it. That requires more than a program. It requires alignment across education, industry, and community partners.” — Mayor Whitmire

We are grateful to our incredible Houston Local Partners Committee for making this forum possible:
•Mayor’s Office of Education and Youth Engagement
•Greater Houston Opportunity Youth Collaborative ACAM, Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries
• Texas Network of Youth Services
•Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County (CFTH)
• Workforce Solutions
• Texas Network of Youth Services
• United Way of Greater Houston

Thank you, Houston. We carry this forward. Stay tuned as we recap all of the highlights from the Annual Forum.

NYEC was honored to be asked to testify before the United States House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development on "Strengthening WIOA: Improving Outcomes for America's Workforce.” In his testimony, NYEC’s Board Chair, Robert Sainz, encouraged Congress to reauthorize WIOA this Congress with key provisions that would benefit opportunity youth and the programs that serve them. These provisions include:
1.Creating a Youth Apprenticeship Readiness Grant program;
2.Updating the definition of “out-of-school youth” to “opportunity youth” and including youth experiencing homelessness and youth in foster care in the definition regardless of school enrollment status;
3.Mandating the use of self-attestation so young people can be served by providers upon engaging with the program;
4.Codifying the Reentry Employment Opportunities (REO) program so justice-impacted youth can be connected to employment opportunities;
5.Requiring state and local workforce boards to produce an analysis of the opportunity youth population in the state and their needs; and
6.Authorizing increased funding for the WIOA Title I Youth Program.

NYEC looks forward to working with Congressional leaders, our national partners, our members, and young people to strengthen and reauthorize WIOA.
