Child and forced labor are not gender neutral.

In South Asia’s carpet and garment supply chains, the same structural challenges that push children into work often fall heavily on women and girls. When women earn less, face harassment at work, or cannot access education, the conditions for child and forced labor persist.

GoodWeave’s gender-responsive approach includes supporting girls’ education and rights awareness, elevating women’s voices and leadership within their communities, helping families access education and early childhood support, and helping women workers access information and services related to worker rights, health, and financial literacy.

NCL has been fighting child labor since before it was a federal crime. Founded in 1899, we spent decades pushing until the FLSA of 1938 set the first federal child labor standards in American history. But laws only go so far. In 1989 we launched the Child Labor Coalition because the fight was not finished. 127 years later children are still being exploited in fields, factories, and supply chains worldwide. The children of 2026 deserve better.

No child should have their future stolen by a forced marriage. Oklahoma's Senate and House have both passed a bill to change that, and it now heads to Governor Kevin Stitt's desk. One signature stands between Oklahoma's children and this critical protection. Sign the bill.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Pharis Harvey, one of the three original co-chairs who helped found the Child Labor Coalition in 1989. Pharis spent his life fighting for workers and children around the world. He helped launch RugMark (now GoodWeave) with Senator Tom Harkin, marched across India with Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, and never stopped working to hold corporations accountable for the workers in their supply chains. Known for his depth of knowledge, integrity, and quiet determination, his legacy lives in the work we continue every day. We are so grateful he helped build what we carry forward. Rest in peace, Pharis.

568 child labor violations. Kids as young as 14 working 17-hour shifts. One minor clocking out at 1:30 a.m. The Illinois AG is suing a Lockport McDonald's and we're glad someone is paying attention.

The restaurant allegedly worked children aged 14 and 15 years old for longer than 8 hours without rest and meal breaks.
