Continuing our Head Start Awareness Month celebration, today we’re spotlighting Maria Espinoza! She is a former student of RCMA Migrant and Seasonal Head Start and a proud NAFHSA alumna from the 2021–2022 cohort! 🌟

Maria’s journey is a testament to the lasting impact of MSHS. Her passion for advocating for the farmworker community has shaped her career, leading to an appointment during the Biden administration in 2023. Today, she is continuing her journey as a J.D. candidate at American University Washington College of Law!

We’re proud to celebrate Maria and all she continues to accomplish. Her story is a powerful reminder that the impact of Migrant and Seasonal Head Start extends far beyond the classroom, inspiring the next generation of leaders and advocates for farmworker families 💚

This Head Start Awareness Month, NAFHSA is proud to spotlight a few of the many success stories that have come out of this impactful program 🌟

Kicking us off is Community Council of Idaho, Inc.’s CEO, Irma Morin, who got her start at the organization as a child enrolled in their program at El Centro de Colores 💚💜🧡💙

Irma’s story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of Migrant and Seasonal Head Start. These programs do more than lay the foundation for a child’s education! They help shape futures, open doors, and inspire the next generation to give back to the communities that helped them thrive.

We are proud to have her as part of our Board and a leader in the agriculture worker community 👩🏾‍🌾💗

Happy Head Start Awareness Month 🌟

NAFHSA is proud to celebrate the incredible impact and success of Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs!

MSHS is a vital lifeline for thousands of agworker families across the country, providing so much more than just early childhood education. For over 55 years, these programs have created a safe, nurturing space for children to learn, explore, grow, and develop while their parents work hard to feed the nation.

Today, more than ever, we want to recognize and thank MSHS center staff, teachers, directors, bus drivers, family service staff, and every individual who plays a role in supporting our children and families.

Thank you for nurturing young minds, encouraging curiosity, building confidence, and helping our children spread their wings as they take the next steps into their educational journey 🦋📚

Your dedication, compassion, and commitment do not go unnoticed. We see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you ❤️✨

NAFHSA is pleased to see that Congressman Mike Thompson took time to visit an E Center Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Center! There is not better way to experience the true heart and impact of our programs than by spending a day in the classroom 📚 ❤️

We hope the Congressman enjoyed his day with the staff and students, and we encourage more of our elected officials to visit centers in their states 🌟

This month we honor the Hispanic agworkers who plant, tend, and harvest much of the food that reaches our tables, rising before dawn and working long days in the fields so families across the country can eat. Their skilled work and dedication keep our food system running, yet too often go unseen. We see you and we thank you for the love, culture, and resilience you bring to our communities and our programs 💛

Happy Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month! What better way to kick things off than joining AP-OD National and UnidosUS for the congressional briefing on the 2026 National Latino Family Report 🌞🪅

It was an insightful morning hearing AP-OD’s Managing Director of National Policy, Javier Martinez, break down findings from 1,300 Latino families surveyed nationwide spotlighting the disparities they face and how we can strengthen efforts to address them.

Followed by a panel featuring our Executive Director, Cleofas Rodriguez Jr., alongside RCMA Executive Director, Isabel Garcia, and Latino Infant Initiative Parent Leader, Anthony Garcia, moderated by UnidosUS’s Sr. Director of Education Policy, Amalia Chamorro.

NAFHSA is honored to be part of this important conversation, and we look forward to continuing this work alongside these incredible organizations to uplift and support our communities 💛

As extreme wildfires have burned across North America and smoke has heavily impacted communities in the northern US, agricultural workers across the country have continued to show up and do the essential work of harvesting our food.

Heat and smoke don’t stop the harvest. The work continues, even in some of the toughest conditions.

NAFHSA recognizes the incredible resilience, strength, and dedication of agricultural workers who labor through extreme weather to keep America fed. We also extend our gratitude to the organizations working alongside them, providing essential supplies and resources to help protect workers from the heat and smoke.
