"Among the most urgent issues facing Black communities is the ongoing epidemic of violence against Black women and girls.

Femicides and gender-based violence continue to claim Black women's lives at alarming rates, met too often with inadequate attention, insufficient investigation, and a silence that is its own kind of harm."

Please read these important reminders from our partners at Ujima: The National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community:

Today is β€” the day when many enslaved Black people finally received word that they had been freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect.

On this day, we remember that our work to end domestic violence is interwoven with all movements to end violence and oppression.

[Image description: Against a black background, white text reads: "Juneteenth celebrates the day when many enslaved Black people received word that they had been freed. The Emancipation Proclamation took effect on January 1, 1863. But it was not until June 19, 1865, that Union troops arrived in Texas, where more than 250,000 Black people were still enslaved. The troops announced that the enslaved people were now free by executive decree. This day became known as Juneteenth." NNEDV logo below. Save the date! πŸ—“οΈ Join NNEDV in a National Day of Action on Monday, June 22, to tell the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to preserve the Equal Access Rule and protect housing for all survivors.

The Equal Access Rule ensures that people cannot be denied access to many HUD-funded housing and shelter programs (including domestic violence shelters) based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status. For survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, safe housing can be lifesaving.

Without safe or accessible housing options, LGBTQIA+ survivors and survivors with LGBTQIA+ children may be forced to live on the street or in unsafe living situations where they are susceptible to further violence and victimization.

Share this post today and stay tuned to take action on Monday!

New resource from NNEDV's Safety Net team and eleven24 inc! πŸ“

Every day, boys and young men are navigating digital spaces and immersed in messages about what it means to be a man. These messages can have a profound impact on how they see themselves and others and how they treat their peers and partners, especially girls and women.

"Redefining The Rules: A Digital Literacy Guide for Boys and Young Men" provides support for young men in critically navigating digital spaces and reducing harmful online behavior. Check it out: https://buff.ly/eqqDMff

[Image descriptions: Across five graphics, text reads: "Redefining the Rules: A Digital Literacy Guide for Boys and Young Men. Every day, boys and young men are navigating digital spaces and immersed in messages about what it means to be a man. These messages can influence how they treat their peers and partners, especially girls and women. Seeing the same harmful ideas over and over can affect relationships. Conflicts feel normal, emotions feel unsafe, or respect feels optional. Repeated exposure to violence can shape how young people understand harm, consent, and relationships. Trusted adults have a responsibility to create space for conversations and questions. Boys and young men can also experience digital abuse and are often made to feel ashamed or uncomfortable asking for help. Everyone deserves to feel safe online and in person. What we do online matters, and we all have a role in building environments rooted in respect, accountability, and care. TechSafety.org."]

Today is Awareness Day – a day to recognize the discrimination and wage gaps that LGBTQ+ employees face, along with a lack of data to help understand and address the issue.

LGBTQ+ households earn about 85Β’ cents for every $1 earned by non-LGBTQ+ households. These gaps prevent LGBTQ+ domestic violence survivors from safely leaving abusers and supporting themselves and their children.

We join Equal Pay Today, A Project of Equal Rights Advocates in raising awareness and calling on Congress to pass the BE HEARD in the Workplace Act to strengthen federal protections against workplace harassment and discrimination. Take action with us today: https://buff.ly/ApRD923

🚨 ACTION ALERT! 🚨 You can help protect equal access to housing for all survivors of abuse.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is attempting to repeal the Equal Access Rule, which currently helps ensure that people cannot be denied access to many HUD-funded housing and shelter programs (including domestic violence shelters) based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.

For survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, safe housing can be lifesaving. LGBTQ+ survivors β€” especially transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming survivors β€” already face significant barriers to safety.

Without safe or accessible housing options, LGBTQ+ survivors and survivors with LGBTQ+ children may be forced to live on the street or in unsafe living situations where they are susceptible to further violence and victimization.

Join NNEDV in opposing this harmful rule:

HUD must withdraw this harmful proposal and preserve equal access to housing and shelter for all survivors.

As of May 19, 2026, the Take it Down Act is in full effect! The law, which established AI-generated image-based sexual abuse as a federal crime, also requires certain online platforms to establish a process for 48-hour removal of non-consensual intimate images.

What does this mean for survivors and the advocates working to support them? Check out our Know Your Rights Guide to the Take it Down Act, developed by the National Resource Center on Cybercrimes in partnership with AEquitas, the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative, the National Domestic Violence Hotline, the New York Cyber Abuse Task Force, RAINN, SPARC - Stalking Prevention, Awareness & Resource Center, SWGfL - Safe, Secure, Online, and NNEDV.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day ( ). πŸ’™

If you have an older loved one in your life, it's important to be aware of any signs that they might be mistreated or abused, especially if they don't have the capacity to recognize it for themselves.

Signs of elder abuse can often be mistaken for "normal" parts of aging, and a medical professional can help you understand the difference.

Find these and other examples, and learn about the resources and legal protections that are available from our WomensLaw team: https://buff.ly/eLps38V
