In Uganda, many rural families live on undocumented land, leaving them vulnerable to conflict and eviction. Cadasta, in partnership with the Ujamaa Foundation and the Ugandan government, has helped secure more than 5,500 Customary Certificates of Occupancy (CCOs) since 2016.

In 2023, new government regulations raised the bar for surveying accuracy. Cadasta responded with Trimble Catalyst, a high-precision GNSS system that allows data collection in remote areas, even without broadband access. This innovation streamlines fieldwork, improves data quality, and ensures that all collected land records meet national standards. Most importantly, it enables rural Ugandans to claim and protect their land rights, which reduces disputes and fosters long-term economic growth.

By utilizing the Trimble Catalyst DA2 GNSS system, Cadasta Foundation's field teams are now collecting highly accurate data on Ugandan land parcels, ensuring compliance with new guidelines.

In Colombia’s Andean-Amazonian foothills, the Awá people are defending their lands from illegal encroachment, with women at the forefront of this effort.

Through our partnership with Unidad Indígena del Pueblo Awá (UNIPA) under the Strengthening Land and Forest Rights program, 95 Awá women have stepped into roles as GIS trainers, territorial committee leaders, and Indigenous Guardia coordinators.

UPDATES FROM THE FIELD: Data collection activities are ongoing for Cadasta's Agri Systems Change project in Rwanda!

The Rwanda National Land Authority in collaboration with Cadasta Foundation and Landesa, are working to improve the Rwanda land information through correction of identified boundary errors and updating missing information.
