Immigrant families are vital members of our communities, and like all families, they require a strong, stable foundation to succeed. However, the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act (PRWORA) institutionalized anti-immigrant exclusion in a range of social policies. Inclusive programs are crucial to countering structural racism and building supports that promote the well-being of all children and families.

Refundable tax credits are powerful tools for advancing economic security and reducing poverty. However, once-a-year lump sums of tax credit disbursement misalign with the unpredictable nature of high living expenses, unstable pay, and financial hardship. However, the federal government has treated Puerto Rico unequally for decades, funding Medicaid at extremely low, arbitrary, and unstable levels. Our op-ed with Center for a New Economy offers ideas for long-term solutions to ensure that everyone, regardless of income, can consistently access quality, affordable health care.

Congress must ensure Puerto Rico doesn’t fall off the approaching Medicaid cliff.

Exciting news: the Center on Gender Justice & Opportunity at Georgetown Law launches today, working to eliminate gender and racial disparities in education, healthcare, and the legal system.

This means that the two initiatives housed at GCPI will become distinct centers, as our collective work to advance racial, gender, and economic equity continues to grow. The Center on Gender Justice & Opportunity will continue to conduct groundbreaking research and advance innovative policy recommendations, informed by the experiences of girls and women who are systemically marginalized and starting from the root causes of injustice.

We will continue to support and follow the work of our friends at the Center on Gender Justice & Opportunity, and encourage you to follow them here!
