We do this by creating One-To-One® mentoring relationships between volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles") that ignite the power and promise of youth.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area, a 501(c)(3) organization, helps children realize their potential through One-To-One® mentoring relationships that ignite the power of youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area (BBBSNCA), a 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children and helping them realize their full potential. Since 1949, we have operated under the belief that inherent in every child can succeed and thrive in life. Our adult volunteers, known as Bigs, are the backbone of our mission. They provide guidance, support, and friendship to our Littles, empowering them to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. Through our various mentorship programs, we offer a safe and supportive environment for youth to thrive and reach their full potential. Children participating in our programs are:
- 85% less likely to have contact with juvenile courts
- 70% less likely to initiate drug use
- 64% more likely to achieve higher grades.

Career exploration was flowing at our second annual with The Drain Guys! 🔧👷‍♂️

Hosted by our 2025 of the Year, Jay Glazer and his team, the event gave an inside look at careers in plumbing and the skilled trades!

Throughout the day, our Littles:

🧰 Learned about different tools and drain-cleaning equipment
📸 Used a camera to inspect the inside of a pipe
💡 Learned about UV pipe-lining technology
🔩 Put their skills to the test with a pipe-building challenge
🤝 Heard firsthand from industry professionals

One of the best moments was watching Jay’s Little, Caleb, become a himself—helping other Littles work through the pipe-building challenge!

Thank you, Jay and the entire Drain Guys team, for creating such a fun and memorable experience for our Littles! 💚
