Kids in Action CN

Kids in Action CN Kids in Action is a FREE adaptive sports and recreation activities program for children and young adults with disabilities.

Kids in Action began as an avenue for children with disabilities to participate in structured social and physical activities in the community. As our patients can move through different health care settings, often beginning in an acute care facility and then transitioning to rehab and outpatient therapy, it was identified by many of the families that there was a lack of options for their children

to participate in social and physical activities. Parents were concerned that their children would lose newly acquired skills that were recently achieved through their therapy services. As a result, Kids in Action was designed for outpatients and former patients at Children's National Rehabilitation & Specialized Care (formerly The HSC Pediatric Center), along with other children in the DC metro community. The program offers year-round adaptive team sports, social events and health classes for children with disabilities, ages 4 and up in the DC area (including Northern Virginia and Maryland). The program is entirely free to all participants, and siblings are encouraged to participate. All abilities are welcomed, as necessary adaptations are made so everyone can participate, and events are supervised by recreation therapists.

MNRH Adaptive Sports & Fitness and Kids in Action are so proud of each and every camper—for the friendships they made, the new activities they tried, the confidence they discovered, the new adventures they embraced, and the memories they'll carry with them long after camp ends.

We loved welcoming our campers' siblings and friends today for all the fun! A huge thank you to our volunteers from GWPT for leading games and helping make the day so special. And a very special thank you to Only Make Believe for putting on the greatest show on earth!

🎉 Day 4 of Adaptive Sports Camp with MNRH Adaptive Sports & Fitness was an absolute BLAST! 🎉

We kicked off the day in our tie dye shirts and grabbed the mic for karaoke with our friends from Goodbeatsensemble, and let's just say we have some future superstars in our group! 🎤🌟 After singing our hearts out, we headed to Dave & Buster's where we enjoyed a delicious lunch before taking on all the games. From racing and basketball to claw machines and everything in between, there were smiles, laughter, high scores, and nonstop fun all afternoon! 🎮🍔🏀

We can't believe tomorrow is already our last day! 💙 This week has flown by, and it's been filled with memories, new activities, and amazing friendships. We're excited to finish the week strong and make every last moment count! ❤️🙌

🎉 Happy 10th Anniversary to our Adaptive Sports Camp! 🎉

MNRH Adaptive Sports & Fitness and Kids in Action have been partnering together for 10 summers to put on this incredible camp!!!

Day 3 was another amazing day filled with fun, friendship, and new adventures!

We started the morning with an energetic Zumba session and danced our hearts out. Then it was time to hit the courts for wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis with JTCC, where campers practiced new drills, built their skills, and cheered each other on.

One of the highlights of the day was an incredible drum circle with our wonderful friends from Goodbeatsensemble ! The energy and excitement were contagious!

We wrapped up the day with a camp-wide game of Bingo, complete with some really awesome prizes.

This week is flying by—just two more days of fun to go! We can't wait to see what tomorrow brings! 💙🏀🎾🥁

Day 2 of Adaptive Sports Camp with MNRH Adaptive Sports & Fitness was right up our alley! 🎳💙

We sure did STRIKE up a great time today! Camp started with a fun music therapy session that had everyone smiling and participating. Then we headed to the bowling alley, where we cheered each other on, celebrated every roll, and made wonderful memories together.

Laughter, teamwork, and fun filled the day—we can't wait to see what tomorrow brings! 🌟

We always love partnering with our friends at NRH to create an unforgettable experience for our athletes. From boccia and gym games to tie-dye and so much more, today was filled with smiles, laughter, and fun!

What an incredible day on the Chesapeake Bay! 🎣🚤
Our All-Stars had an amazing opportunity to spend the day out on the water, enjoying a beautiful boat ride with the perfect breeze. Then we docked so everyone could try their hand at fishing!

We also discovered that Kids in Action has some pretty talented captains! Our All-Stars even had the chance to learn how to drive the boat, and their excitement was unforgettable.

Watching their confidence grow and seeing the smiles on their faces throughout the day made this experience truly special.

We are so grateful to Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating for making this unforgettable adventure possible. Thank you for investing in our All-Stars and giving them memories that will last a lifetime. We can't wait to do it again! 💙🎣🚤

The fun never stops with Kids in Action! What an amazing weekend it’s been.

After a great day sailing yesterday, today was full of jumping, bouncing, flipping, and lots of laughter. We made new friends and had an absolute blast and we have the pics to prove it!!

Ahoy, mates!! ⚓️

Six of our very lucky families had the incredible opportunity to sail the Chesapeake Bay today with Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating! For a few magical hours, wheelchairs stayed on the dock as kids transferred onto a sailboat and set off on an unforgettable adventure. ⛵️

We spotted other boats, kayakers, and birds, felt the rhythm of the waves, and let the wind carry us across the water. 🌊⛵️

It was a truly special day filled with joy and memories that will last a lifetime. 💙

We’re still smiling after an amazing day at Great and Small! It was such a special experience—riding and grooming the horses, and for many of our kids, their very first time on horseback.

We also had the chance to brush the horses and give them treats, which made the day even more memorable.

No horsing around—we had an incredible time!
