Last Friday, June 5, we celebrated the opening reception for the 2026 Summer Members' Exhibition.
Each summer, Arts Club members fill all four of our gallery spaces with their work, with each artist invited to exhibit up to five pieces. This year's exhibition was judged by artist and educator Gavin Glakas, who selected five Awards of Excellence.
Over the next few weeks, we'll be introducing each of the award-winning artists. In no particular order, our first Award of Excellence goes to Meme Austin for her watercolor, Totem Pole, Monument Valley.
One of our newest members, Meme has already made an impression at the Arts Club with her beautiful watercolor paintings inspired by both the Washington, DC area and her travels throughout the United States.

The Arts Club of Washington is pleased to announce acclaimed artist Gavin Glakas as the judge for the upcoming 2026 Summer Members’ Exhibition.
Raised in Bethesda, MD, Gavin Glakas began drawing almost as soon as he could walk. He studied at Washington University in St. Louis and the Slade School of Fine Art in London before ultimately pursuing a career as an artist following a life-changing illness in his early twenties.
His work is held in the permanent collections of the United States Capitol, the Virginia State Capitol, the CIA, and numerous museums, universities, and private collections. Glakas is represented by Principle Gallery in Alexandria, VA and Charleston, SC, as well as Thomsen Fine Art in Sarasota, FL.
In addition to his studio practice, Glakas serves as an Adjunct Professor of drawing at Georgetown University Medical School and teaches drawing and painting at Yellow Barn Studio, online, and through workshops across the country and abroad.
We are honored to welcome him as judge for this year’s Summer Members’ Exhibition.
