For the first time in many moons, the Monroe Parlor of The Arts Club will, in lieu of our own permanent collection of portraits, host a special exhibition: images from the White House’s President Monroe Collection, generously provided by the White House Historical Association. Our President, Jameson Freeman, Gallery Manager Christina Jin, and our amazing team meticulously designed the placement and hanging! We are thrilled to present these rarely seen artifacts on the walls of the room where President James Monroe held his post-inauguration reception in 1817, while living at 2017 I Street NW awaiting the reconstruction of the White House. We are so excited to share this special exhibition with you!

Our last (but not least) Award of Excellence goes to Liming Tang for “Rest Your Eyes, Little One” Liming is a relatively newer member of the Club. She became a member after she and her husband had a wildly successful collaborative show together in 2024. Since then Liming has been consistently exhibiting in the Spilsbury Gallery and this is not her first Award of Excellence in a Member Show. She uses her family for inspiration in this series called “Family Joy” and asks us to slow down and enjoy the little joys around us. On view till July 30.

Daniel is not only one of our most consistent artist members, he is also a member of our volunteer curator group and curates exhibits in the Monroe Galleries downstairs. On view through July 31.

Dick is one of our most consistent artist members, exhibiting in nearly every group show but he never ceases to amaze us with his beautiful drawings. He is a master of his craft as seen here. Last Friday, June 5, we celebrated the opening reception for the 2026 Summer Members' Exhibition.
Each summer, Arts Club members fill all four of our gallery spaces with their work, with each artist invited to exhibit up to five pieces. This year's exhibition was judged by artist and educator Gavin Glakas, who selected five Awards of Excellence.
Over the next few weeks, we'll be introducing each of the award-winning artists. In no particular order, our first Award of Excellence goes to Meme Austin for her watercolor, Totem Pole, Monument Valley.
One of our newest members, Meme has already made an impression at the Arts Club with her beautiful watercolor paintings inspired by both the Washington, DC area and her travels throughout the United States.
