American Association of Zoo Keepers 2017 Conference

Wow - we just heard back from Miriam's Kitchen, the nonprofit that we donated our used Metro cards to after the conference. The grand total is a donation of $870! That's the equivalent of 500 rides around the city to doctor's appointments, to court appointments, to city offices to enroll in things like medicaid, to housing appointments, and to a million other things. Way to go, American Association of Zoo Keepers!

Did you know there is an American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK)? It’s a great way for animal care professionals in the zoo community to network, discuss ideas and learn about the successes of other zoos and facilities. AAZK recently held its national conference, and animal care professionals Danica, Alexa and Sarah got to travel up to Washington D.C. to attend. Herping was a success at Huntley Meadows Park with this sharp group! We observed salamanders, turtles, snakes, birds, mammals, arthropods and some neat-looking fungus. Hard to focus just on herps in this gem of a park! Stay tuned for more moments of our trip
