As we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, we must take time to recognize the resilience of the Sudanese women who have endured unspeakable attacks but continue rise beyond their circumstances and effectively serve as front line defenders at great risks to their lives. We wish to remind you all to speak up and bring attention to the suffering of the women in Sudan and demand their protection and justice.

Throughout the war in Sudan, targeted violence against women is increasingly rampant. Sudanese women have been subjected to gang-r**e, forced mariages, and sexual slavery. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are using sexual violence as a means of waging war and genocide through the practice of ethically targeted r**e – this practice is happening most notably in the region of Darfur. This violence is a tactic of the RSF’s greater campaign of extermination and cleansing Sudan of its ethnic population.

Today, we must speak as one voice to denounce the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war against women and children in Sudan. We must demand that both perpetrators and enablers must be held accountable. Educating yourself about the magnitude of the crisis is the first step to effective advocacy. We urge you to speak out and amplify the voices of the many innocent women and children in Sudan who can't speak for themselves today, and demand that both warring parties must face consequences for the lack of respect for the rights of women and children in war zones.

On 19 June 1865, the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation took place in Texas, when the last enslaved individuals were freed following the Civil War.

Today marks the anniversary of this historic event, and as we celebrate the freedom of enslaved people in the United States, we recognize that there is still much work to be done in the US and around the world. Today, we ask for reflection on the history of slavery and recognition of those who fought for freedoms and equality before the law, and we must strongly denounce racism toward African-Americans and other minorities across the United States and ask for continued advocacy for the protection of people of color worldwide. We ask that you speak out and amplify the voices of those targeted by perpetrators of slavery and racism, past and present.

Today, as we celebrate Juneteenth, DWAG is committed and urges you to stand firm, and we must collectively reiterate our commitment to continue to fight for equity and racial and social justice at home and internationally.

One of the most prominent brands on display during the recent NBA Finals was the Emirates, the state-owned airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). You must know that The UAE is supplying weapon and partnering with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a militia responsible for the genocide in Sudan.

Please view Niemat Ahmadi's feature in Refugees International's press briefing on the UAE's role in the genocide in Sudan. We call upon the NBA to end its partnership with Emirates until the UAE ends its support of genocide.

As we mark the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, we wish to remind all to bring attention to the suffering and demand protection for the rights of the children of Darfur and Sudan.

On this day, it is important to recognize that the children of Darfur and Sudan have become the primary victims of violence, insecurity, mass displacement, malnutrition and lack of access to health care and education. Under international laws, all children are entitled to protection, access to all basic needs, and to be free from violence.

Today, we must take time to learn about the situation of children impacted by war in Darfur and Sudan and demand that their protection must be a top priority. Education and understanding are the first step to effective advocacy. We ask that you speak out and amplify the voices of the many innocent children in Sudan who are victims of aggression, and demand that both warring parties must respect the rights of children in war zones.

The DWAG team sends wishes of a peaceful and joyous Eid al-Adha to all!

During this time, it is important for us to highlight that those in Sudan are facing one of the worst humanitarian crises today, experiencing a renewed and intensified phase of genocide. While Eid should be a time of celebration, those in Sudan are instead facing mass killings, ethnic targeting, siege warfare, starvation, and sexual violence.

This Eid al-Adha, we ask to keep eyes on Sudan, while keeping the people of Sudan in your thoughts and prayer and providing moral support to ensure that those in Sudan can find a time of celebration amidst the ongoing crisis.

As we mark Protection of Civilians Week, we are reminded that protecting civilians requires more than statements of concern. It demands attention, serious measures and practical steps to save lives.

The people of Sudan are facing one of the worst civil protection and humanitarian crises today. Since 2023, the people of and Sudan have experienced a renewed and intensified phase of genocide, marked by mass killings, ethnic targeting, siege warfare, starvation as aweapon, sexual violence, and the systematic destruction of displacement camps and civilian service infrastructure.

Protection cannot need immediate intervention and accountability, urgent humanitarian access, and sustained international attention. The UNSC members must use the tools at hand and meet their legal obligations toward the responsibility to protect in Sudan. Silence and inaction has enabled genocide and deadliest atrocities.

This week, take time to learn, speak out, and amplify the voices of affected communities. Your voice can help save lives. Civilian protection begins with refusing to look away.

“There has never been a time in Sudan that we need to pursue justice more than now.”

Darfur Women Action Group (DWAG) was honored to participate as a panelist at “Women’s Health, Rights and Resilience: Spotlight on Sudan,” hosted by the UK Mission to the United Nations on 28 April 2026 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

The discussion highlighted the urgent realities on the ground in Sudan, including the severe lack of healthcare, shortages of essential supplies, and the breakdown of health care system. Panelists emphasized that health services cannot be delivered in the presence of attacks on health care workers and impunity, and stressed the need to protect health workers themselves. Gender-based violence (GBV) must be recognized and funded as an essential emergency response, alongside the importance of trained, survivor-centered responses that prevent retraumatization. The need to frame sexual and reproductive health and violence against women as family and societal issues, rather than solely women’s issues, was also emphasized.

“Women are the glue that holds families and communities together. When women are under attack, society as a whole is under attack.” -Niemat Ahmadi

DWAG extends its sincere appreciation to the for providing this important platform and the opportunity to contribute to this critical dialogue.
