Food Recovery Network

Food Recovery Network Fighting Waste, Feeding People. We seek to recover surplus food to feed everyone who experiences hunger in the U.S.

Food Recovery Network (FRN) is a national nonprofit that mobilizes 6,000 college students, food suppliers, and local businesses in the fight against climate change and hunger by recovering surplus food from college campuses and communities that would otherwise go to waste and donating it to nonprofits that feed people experiencing hunger. We're thrilled to share our heartfelt thanks to WM for their fantastic support of our Title I Elementary School Produce Distribution program in the Twin Cities.

Together, we've made a significant impact by reducing food waste and helping to end hunger for local families. Our team had an amazing time collaborating with the WM team on the ground, distributing delicious, fresh produce. Here’s to continuing our partnership and making a difference together.

Rhubarb season is upon us. We were lucky to have this garden fresh vegetable make an appearance for our Elementary School produce distribution in the Twin Cities last week . Did you know you can dice your rhubarb (be sure to remove all of the leaves) and freeze it for up to a year to have on immediate hand for all of your cobblers, crisps or sauces.

Got rhubarb? Try this recipe and let us know what you think?

We are hearing from our students that their communities are hungry and are increasingly relying on their food recoveries, like our leaders at Louisiana State University:

“We were filling up one of the community fridges in Baton Rouge, just like we do every single Friday, but this time was different. There were several cars waiting by the refrigerator waiting for us. They were relying on us, and we could feel it. As we were finishing up, an older lady got out of her car and started walking to the fridge. She said, ‘Because of you all, we eat.’ We are providing people with food who would otherwise go without. Life can be hard, and it is very moving to realize that you are in a position where you can save someone's life.”

FRN is responding every day by moving food to people who need it most — faster and more efficiently than ever.

But the costs of transportation, food recovery, staffing, and operations have all increased substantially. We need your support to meet this moment. Today on , your gift will directly help us feed more people, faster, more efficiently.

In just a few months, we will be celebrating 15 years in the fight against climate change and hunger. We could not have come this far without our key partnerships.

Thank you to The Wawa Foundation for fueling our network and supporting local communities by helping to turn surplus food into meals for families and individuals experiencing hunger.
