Join us to celebrate the launch of Thomas Proctor’s new book, Classical Houses published by Rizzoli, at Compass on 14th street NW. on Thursday Sept 23rd at 6pm.

Admired for his knowledge of classical architecture, Proctor has long been respected for his devotion to creating houses that seeks inspiration from the past, that are not only rooted in the larger classical tradition, but the architectural traditions of California. THOMAS PROCTOR: CLASSICAL HOUSES presents seven of Proctor’s projects alongside his design philosophy, coupled with architectural vignettes that illustrate Proctor’s deep understanding of classicism. His approach to creating a modern, livable home built to bridge the gap between past, present, and future takes the best of traditional architecture—from the detailed craftsmanship to the elegant, balanced proportions—and translates it for the kind of connected, welcoming spaces that suit modern family life.

Thomas will briefly speak about his work and the book followed by a book signing. Refreshment will be provided and books available for purchase. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/thomas-proctor-classical-houses-book-launch-tickets-168937284967

Tickets are now available for our joint lecture with the national Civic Art Society at the Cosmos Club on Friday, May 10, as we welcome Professor James Stevens Curl. Curl will summarize his book, Making Dystopia, of the advent of architectural modernism in the aftermath of WWI, its protagonists, and astonishing global acceptance after 1945. The triumph of architectural Modernism in the 2nd half of the 20th century led to massive destruction, the creation of alien urban landscapes, and a huge waste of resources. However, the coming of Modernism was not inevitable. AIA CE credits are available for this lecture.
