Established in 1866 and originally known as The Aeronautical Society of Great Britain, the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) has always been at the forefront of developments in aerospace to further the art, science and engineering of aeronautics. The Washington Branch of the RAeS was inaugurated to serve the Washington area on December 17, 2003, the centenary of the Wright Brothers’ manned flight. The branch aims to stimulate advances in aviation safety and technology by providing a forum to further improve technical, political and social interchange between the US and UK aerospace communities.
