Out with my mentee on Sunday after church. I asked babygirl was she hungry! This baby said she wants ribs. And she picked the spot in DC. She turned me on to something. The ribs and all the sides and brisket was bomb! These kids don’t ask for McDonald’s no more. 😆 Love working with my youth! They need US! ❤️😘

Facts! Stop letting your children and grands stay at everyone’s house. And stop trusting everyone because they have these titles especially in the church. These people are sick and it’s not fair that children are being traumatized from people’s sick actions. This topic is sensitive for me because I work with kids and I have grands. It’s our duty to help expose these sick people and stop telling our kids to stay quiet when they get violated. I’m going to expose you and SOME if you play with mine. Kids should know what it’s like to be a child and that’s it. In addition, stop discussing everything around your children because everything isn’t for them to know! Too many babysitters come with a high price. People are just dirty and dead inside!

Photo dump from last month with my mentee Serene. Love me some her. So mature and clear on the road she’s traveling! I love working with these girls and helping them with their goals! Christmas morning she was one of the first to call me and wish me a happy Christmas. It’s the small things that matters! Pray my strength as I continue to do this work while elevating in other directions. I love working with the youth! I’m clear on it’s my calling and I’m all in!

This weekend, the company I work with hosted a Christmas Workshop/Party for our girls, and we truly enjoyed it. The girls were fully engaged, and it was amazing to see the mentors—who normally work in the community with their kids—come together to lead the workshops.
I absolutely love working with young people. Sessions like this are what help keep them positive, safe, and learning how to socialize and build healthy connections with other kids. ❤️

This is what my day looked like from beginning to end! Special love to my son Joe — he’s been helping me since early this morning getting the turkeys loaded and delivered to Dunbar!
A HUGE thank you to the Dunbar HS students and the youth we mentor who needed community service hours. They worked so hard unloading the trucks, helping parents, and volunteering. They were mature, respectful, and followed instructions beautifully!
This is the kind of work you cannot do alone. Thank you to the Dunbar staff for helping me gather the youth and for allowing me to come back every year.
I love my youth, and I love my community! When we stick together, we truly are all we need.

Hello all!
I hope everyone is doing well. For the past few years, I’ve had the honor of assisting my alma mater, Dunbar High School, by providing Thanksgiving Turkey Baskets for students and families in the community.
Many of my amazing friends and family members have supported this effort through donations, and I’m truly grateful — as much of this work has also come from my own pocket.
This year, things are a little tighter for me due to the government shutdown, but I don’t want that to stop the good work we’ve been doing together. I’m excited to share that my organization, DeShawn Cares Foundation, Inc., will be receiving 100 turkeys to support this year’s effort! 🙌🏽
We’re also blessed to have two wonderful sponsors joining us this year:
Love Conquers ALL, founded by my friend Lanice, who also grew up in the Sursum Corda community and continues to give back, will be donating coats, hats, and gloves.
Jay J’s Lemonade will be donating lemonade kits for the families.
However, we still need help providing side items for the baskets — including:
stuffing, rice, cereal, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, canned goods, box cakes and icing, gravy (in jars), cranberry sauce, and other traditional meal items.
If you’re able to donate, any contribution will make a difference. I can also purchase items from Sam’s Club or Costco if you prefer to send a monetary donation instead of shopping yourself.
Also, if you know a high school student or a youth who needs community service hours (for court or to complete high school), please refer them to me. As you know, I love helping our young people grow and succeed. ❤️
