Today marks the first meeting of participants in our Youth Facing Racism Program!

We have accepted a fantastic group of 12 students to join us for this program. Students in the internationally-oriented program are from the U.S., as well as Cameroon, China, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe, and attend six different high schools in the D.C. area.

It’s a special kind of person who wants to explore these
issues in depth and through service, and we are so happy that they will be joining us for this experience.

We concluded our last summer leadership series yesterday with two great meetings on the Hill. We’ve met the amazing Bianca Ortiz Wertheim, currently the only Senate Latina Chief of Staff for Senator Udall (NM). We're so thankful for Bianca's sharing on women and leadership and her hard work and dedication to make our country a better place.

And many thanks to Mr Chris Conlin, tax counsel for Senator Grassley (Iowa). It was fun and eye-opening to learn about the amazing work that Chris is doing at the Senate Finance Committee.

Mr. Jeyben Castro and Washington Gas, thank you so much for welcoming and hosting our students yesterday! We had so much fun learning about why and how corporations in America care about social responsibility and how to achieve global success through local engagement. Mr. Jeyben, thanks for your passion to raise up young leaders, especially minority leaders in our community! You are an inspiration.

We had a fantastic program at the Department of State yesterday. Thanks so much for our colleagues at the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) for hosting us! Our students enjoyed learning about the amazing work that ECA is doing around the world in building trust and relationships between US and other nations. They are raising up global young leaders through exchange programs.

We also had the chance to tour the magnificent Diplomatic Reception Room, a true hidden gem in DC!

Our executive director Dr. Elisa Zhai Autry gave a keynote speech at the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS) East Annual conference.

Dr. Autry’s talk helped universities better understand the challenges that international students encounter while studying abroad in the U. S. and provided strategic and practical suggestions for solutions.

Dr. Autry kicks off our final day of education at with an amazing General Session on international students and how we can better support their transition.

We are so thankful to Mr. Bill Snyder for hosting us at ASM Research yesterday. Our students had an eye-opening experience learning about how companies like ASM Research deliver top-notch innovative and practical solutions for federal organizations.

Students were so fascinated by Bill's personal story as well -- Bill served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, retired as a captain working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and then transitioned from military to the corporate world, applying his years of leadership experience in the military to his new surroundings. We had fun discussions on how different organizational contexts shape leadership sub-cultures, military leadership culture versus corporate culture, U.S. military culture versus military culture in China or in Saudi Arabia, and leadership as a calling versus leadership as a job.

Mr. Snyder, thank you for your service and for your inspiring insights!
