Post-Jummah prayer, members from Rashidun, Masjid Al-Islam, and other local advocates gathered outside the Federal Bureau of Prisos to demand justice for 81-year-old Imam Jamil Al-Amin (formerly H. Rap Brown). A renowned civil rights leader, activist, and former chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Imam Jamil has been unjustly imprisoned since 2000.

He is currently suffering from advanced facial cancer, severe swelling, and vision impairment, and has been denied adequate medical treatment while in prison. His health continues to deteriorate under medical neglect. We call for his immediate release and demand justice for a man who has dedicated his life to fighting for truth, justice, and the oppressed.

Tuesdays with Rashidun. Alhamdullilah, we were able to serve food and hand warmers to 120 individuals between Hechinger Mall and outside of 801 E Shelter. We are grateful to our donors who contribute and provide the food weekly for these efforts.

Every Thursday, Imam Ali and the Austin brothers can be found at Hechinger Mall NE and near St. Elizabeth’s SE, feeding those experiencing homelessness. This week, we had additional helpers and were blessed to distribute socks, hats, long johns, and undershirts generously donated by our community. We are deeply grateful to all who contribute essentials and food, enabling us to serve. May Allah bless our donors and Rashidun and keep our unhoused neighbors warm and safe.

Imam Ali and Brother Rarheem visited DYRS juvenile facility to deliver a powerful Friday Khutbah and engage in meaningful discussions with the youth about Islam. The first unit was fully Muslim, and in the second unit, majority was Muslim with one young brother who embraced Islam, taking his shahada with Imam Ali after prayer.

The Sisters of Rashidun led impactful group sessions afterward, focusing on post-release goals and emotional self-awareness. Many youth opened up about the struggles they face—anger, lack of self-control, and challenges at home—sharing the barriers that contributed to their actions. May Allah guide and strengthen these young hearts on the path to healing and growth. *** If you would like to donate scarves, Qurans, prayer rugs, or small bracelet size prayer beads to the youth at this facility, please let us know.

Alhamdulillah, Imam Ali delivered a presentation about the impactful work of Ar- Rashidun Community Center at a wonderful gathering hosted by this Lanham Muslim community. Jazakum Allahu Khairan to our gracious hosts for opening their lovely home and bringing the neighborhood together for a meaningful fundraiser.

This small knit neighborhood community has directly supported Ar-Rashidun Community Center over the years in many ways, through monetary donations and in particular the sisters providing home cooked meals for us to serve to those experiencing homelessness. The support and donations fuels our mission to serve and uplift the community! May Allah (SWT) continue to bless the brothers and sisters in this community. 🤲🏾
