Daylilies are members of the genus Hemerocallis which is a combination of two Greek words meaning "day" and "beautiful." This tells you the flowers last only one day and are beautiful.

Purple loosestrife was introduced to the northeastern U.S. and Canada in the 1800s, for ornamental and medicinal uses.
