Happy ! 🙌

This year’s theme, as designated by the National Women’s History Alliance, is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.” This theme honors the brave, accomplished women who told and continue to tell our stories of courage, service, and devotion to the Coast Guard and our nation.

Women are critical members of the Coast Guard team and have played a major role in the history of the modern and its predecessor services.

Our total workforce is comprised of over 10,000 incredible women who have served the Coast Guard and our nation with excellence throughout history.

The women of our Coast Guard are always ready to lead and execute our massive mission with dedication and commitment.

During Women’s History Month, we recognize and honor the strength and dedication of our sisters-in-arms throughout the Service!

Meet the woman behind early Landsat images: Dr. Valerie L. Thomas.

A self-taught programmer, she managed the development of early Landsat image processing. Her work in the 1970s helped show for the first time that global crop monitoring could be done with Landsat satellite imagery. https://go.nasa.gov/3ZudDJQ

Meet Marie-Claude Mbuyi, our Country Director! Based in Kinshasa, Marie-Claude has been with us for 10 years.

“What I love most about Pathfinder is that it is an organization that always strives for excellence to better serve the communities we serve, to improve their sexual and reproductive health and well-being, in often difficult circumstances. To do this, it always pushes you to give the best of yourself, to continually question yourself, to find new solutions (innovation!). Routine is not part of the way of working at Pathfinder.”

SO WHY PUBLICHEALTHMAPS?

PublicHealthMaps is an independent, data-driven organization based in the Washington, District of Columbia metropolitan area in the United States of America. Our mission is to empower people with greater understanding about public health, maps, and everything in between.

The organization was founded in 2017 by Edward Vallejo, an epidemiologist with a passion for public health, geographic information systems, volunteerism, education, and technology. He was inspired in part by the famous John Snow cholera map (Cover Photo) during his public health education, his varied experiences living and working around the world, and people that he met during his travels, most notably the individuals at annual the Geo for Good Summits at Google.

PublicHealthMaps was created to highlight the critical noticed the critical intersection of public health with location, and other fields. The goal will not be to reinvent the wheel, but to take it to the next level by serving as a nexus for information, training, and other resources.

PublicHealthMaps is run by experienced professionals with backgrounds in public health, geographic information systems, business, and more:
