Thank you to the delegates of the AFL-CIO Constitutional Convention for overwhelmingly adopting Resolution 17: Revitalizing Domestic Shipbuilding, Ship Repair, and Maritime Industries.

Your vote says it all. America must invest in American shipyards, American workers, and American maritime industries.

From naval shipbuilding and ship repair to the commercial maritime sector, our nation's security, economy, and industrial strength depend on a skilled union workforce and a strong domestic industrial base. This resolution helps chart a course toward rebuilding capacity, creating good union jobs, and ensuring the United States remains a maritime leader for generations to come.

The Metal Trades Department proudly thanks the AFL-CIO delegates who stood with shipyard workers, mariners, and the entire maritime workforce.

The House Armed Services Committee is pushing back against President Donald Trump’s executive order that removes collective bargaining rights for civilian workers at nearly three dozen federal agencies in an effort “to enhance the national security of the United States.”

The executive order is currently the subject of multiple lawsuits in federal court — but the HASC amendment would block its enforcement across the Defense Department.

A new amendment would block implementation of President Donald Trump's executive order eliminating collective bargaining rights for DoD civilians.

👏 American shipbuilding won.

Last week, the House Armed Services Committee advanced provisions that strengthen domestic shipbuilding, support American workers, and help protect our nation's maritime industrial base.

The Metal Trades Department thanks the lawmakers who stood with shipyard workers and reaffirmed that American vessels should be built and maintained by American workers.
