Wards 7 & 8 don't just need more options, they need access.
Janelle breaks it down. "We just need this to be inclusive, but also affordable, available, and accessible."
This is why farmers markets in Wards 7 & 8 matter. This is why we show up.
Find us every other Sunday (biweekly) at the PR Harris Urban Farmers Market.

If you've been following the SNAP situation this week, here's a quick breakdown of where things stand.
On June 1st, new federal conditions tied to SNAP and other USDA nutrition funding took effect. On June 5th, a federal judge temporarily blocked enforcement, siding with DC and 20 other states that argued the requirements threatened critical food assistance programs.
This is not a permanent fix though, the legal battle is ongoing and we'll continue to monitor it closely.
The Farmers Alliance will keep our DC community informed as this develops. Visit thefarmersalliance.org or send us a message directly with any questions.

Hot take: honeybees aren't the ones we need to worry about. 🐝

They're managed livestock. The real crisis is native pollinators and hotter temperatures are accelerating their decline in ways most people aren't tracking.

In the DC region, bees are emerging weeks earlier than normal because of warming temperatures. But the flowers aren't blooming yet. That timing mismatch means less food, weaker ecosystems, and smaller harvests for the local farms you shop from.

Swipe to understand the full picture and what real pollinator protection actually looks like.

This is Pete from Muldoon Farm standing on a hay bale they just rolled, on land him and his family work on every single day. Doing the work that feeds your community.

This World Environment Day, we're not talking in the abstract. Supporting local farmers IS climate action. It shortens supply chains, keeps land in production, and puts food in your hands that didn't travel thousands of miles to get there.

Know your farmer. That's where it starts.
