Deadly Truck Drivers have no place on our roads. Kudos to TSC volunteer, Nora Lopez, for sharing her story and prompting real change in California.

TSC has been awarded grant funding to work with State DMVs and Court Systems to troubleshoot the very issues described in this report, ensure CDL suspensions occur expeditiously, and keep EVERYONE safe from deadly truck drivers.

On October 15, 2002, Dana Wood and her friend were killed on I-95 in Virginia. They were driving to East Carolina University when a truck driver, who neither slowed nor attempted to change lanes, struck Dana’s car, pushing it 1,500 feet down the highway.

He had already clocked nine hours behind the wheel on that day, and was driving on a suspended license.

On October 14, 1993, two brave Marines, Jasen Swift and Dustin, tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident on Highway 395 near Minden, NV. They were on their way to the Mountain Warfare Training Center near Bridgeport, CA, where they were stationed, when their lives were cut short by a preventable tragedy. A tired truck driver, who ignored the rules of the road, took a reckless chance that ended in heartbreak. But even in the face of tragedy, we find strength in the courage and sacrifice of these two heroes. May their memory inspire us to drive change and make our roads safer for all! Despite the darkness of that fateful morning, their legacy shines bright!

On Oct 14, 2022, Kristen Kalbfleisch was driving home when a semi-truck slammed into her car on I-29. She and her 6-yr-old lab, Bo-Jax, were lucky to survive. Now, Kristen's recovering from physical injuries, but struggling with emotional trauma.

On October 11, 2021, McKenna Winnie’s car was heading eastbound on Route 619 when her car was struck by a tractor-trailer traveling south at the intersection of Route 77. McKenna was killed in the crash. That same intersection had been the site of another crash just months earlier, when a dump truck traveling at high speeds t-boned a car.

In 2017, McKenna had only just begun her sophomore year at the University of Delaware when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. McKenna not only survived, but thrived. She pushed through the physical challenges of college, work, and everyday life with the support of her family, friends, classmates, and coworkers.

At the time of the crash, McKenna was working on her Master’s degree in public policy and public health at Rutgers and had taken a position at the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research.

For those who knew her, her passing was unfathomable. She was considered a blessing to many. She was a remarkable woman who survived a brain tumor with deep faith and an enduring sense of humor. At 23, McKenna Winnie had her entire life ahead of her, but was gone in a devastating instant.
