Be a community resource for new coming SIVs/ Afghan immigrants, existing community members, and local service providers. Provide networking capacity for community partners and members. Use funding to provide community services and help to community members. Provide an organization with standing to advocate for legislation and policies in the interest of the community. Colla
borate with other community groups and agencies to provide enhancements to existing services. Provide expertise, training, and education to the local community members. Fund projects aimed at advancing the interests of the council/ member organizations. Provide interpretation, orientation, and cultural mediation to new coming SIVs/ Afghan immigrants. Bridge between the US and Afghan community in the US and Afghanistan. Organization Structure:
Afghan American Development Council (AADC) is steered by a Board of Directors, who are selected for the first year and must be elected after establishment of the organization. In order to provide both continuity and flexibility to the organization’s governing body the Board of Directors will be elected for two-year terms, and it includes qualified and influential leaders in the community from varied locations around the DC area/country. The Board may expand as the organization grows to include leaders from all areas of the country where large populations of Afghan reside. The Executive Committee, consisting of the chairman, president, treasurer, secretary, and compliance officer. AADC’s Advisory Board consists of prominent individuals from varying backgrounds with a wide range of knowledge and expertise. The Advisory Board provides advice to AADC’s Board of Directors in order to ensure that all its activities further the group’s goal of encouraging Afghans/ Afghan Americans’ participation in American civic life. AADC holds two annual board meetings where the Board of Directors and Officers review plans and develop strategies for short term and longer terms of the organization. The Board oversees the operation of the organization, reviews reports, evaluates progress, and ensures that the organization continues to progress in fulfilling its mission and goals.
