We are a burgeoning and informal group of folks from the 6th & I community who come together monthly and discuss Jewish books. We have only been meeting for a few short months and would love for you to join us for an upcoming discussion. If your questions have not been addressed, please feel free to leave a comment. I hope you’ll join us for our next discussion in December. Q: What constitutes a J
ewish book? A: Good question. There are a lot of different ways to classify a book of a certain genre. For our purposes, we include books which include topics that have a Jewish theme or address Jewish life or have been written by a Jewish author. This provides a very wide range of books for discussion. We read both fiction and non-fiction. Q: What books have you read so far? A: The Lampshade by Mark Jacobson; Kosher Nation by Sue Fishkoff, and Yiddish Policeman’s Union: A Novel (P.S.) by Michael Chabon
Q: What will you be reading next? A: Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
Q: How can I suggest a book? A: We use a shared google document to hold our suggestion list. Anyone can read and edit the document. Q: How do you choose which book the group will read next month? A: We open the voting monthly starting the night of our book club meeting and typically leave it open for a few days. There will be a post here on this web site which states when the voting opens and closes. You can choose from any book on our list. Q: Where do you meet? A: We meet at 6th & I Synagogue
Q: How often do you meet? A: Typically once a month. Q: How can I help? I love book clubs! We are a super informal group. You can volunteer to bring snacks to a meeting or work out logistics for our next book club.
