INFORMATION FOR ALUMNI VISITORS

Welcome back to the School as we help celebrate the 90th anniversary of the first graduations!

Please enter at the Auditorium lobby (formerly known as the gym lobby) on Chesapeake Street between 10 am and 11:15 am. Several activities are happening in the building, and we’ve arranged to reduce conflicts with other groups.

• Saturday test prep classes are being conducted on some floors, so please don’t go exploring on your own.

• New students and families attending the Enrollment Open House will be visiting the School in the Atrium (formerly courtyard) starting at 9 am.

• Wear comfy shoes! Building tours begin at 10:20, 10:40, and 11:00 from the auditorium lobby and conclude in the stadium lobby, where copies of the Beacon from various eras will be displayed. From there, you’re invited to cross the hall to join others in the Atrium. Elevators will be available for those requiring them.

• At noon, principal Sah Brown and others will offer welcoming remarks.

• Please help us conclude the event by welcoming incoming students with a rousing “Go Tigers!”

• After 1 pm, alumni may continue re-connecting at Guapo’s on Wisconsin Avenue.

If you haven’t yet done so, please be sure to update your alumni contact information while you're here.

Thank you for joining us!

Beacon Seeks Your Stories Ahead of April 25 Anniversary Celebration

NOTE: Due to a technical issue, the link to the Beacon’s questionnaire has been updated. If you had trouble connecting before, please try again using the link shown below.

Alumni of all years are invited to an open house marking the 90th anniversary of the School’s first winter and spring graduating classes.

We’ll meet at the Atrium at 10 am Saturday, April 25, 2026 to reconnect, reminisce, and honor 90 years of Tiger pride.

Students will lead morning building tours. Principal Sah Brown and other officials will greet attendees at noon, followed by an appearance by the Jackson-Reed Jazz Ensemble.

Beacon staffers will be on hand to capture oral history remarks from visiting alumni. Whether you can attend or not, please respond to the Beacon’s alumni questionnaire, which doubles as the alumni RSVP to get a headcount for alumni tours at the celebration.

Please visit the Beacon’s questionnaire (and RSVP) by April 21 at this link: https://docs.google.com/.../1J0zm1d76jvQT_f0IY1.../edit, or use the QR code shown here -- it's fuzzy, but it works. You can respond to questions from student journalists who are collecting alumni memories for a special year-end section of the Beacon.

Jackson Reed/Wilson Alumni - The girls basketball team is coming to you hat in hand. As you prep for any year end charitable giving, please consider donating to Jackson Reed HS Girls basketball. This is my 2nd year as the Head Coach and we are seeking donations to help with travel, tourney fees, pre game meals and off court apparel. The lead article in this summer's Alumni Beacon addresses the alumni association's uncertain future.

While the Association's corporation and nonprofit status are paused, the board has suspended collection of membership dues. During this time, alumni may still apply for membership at no cost through our online link (see the website in our About tab). This membership count will help the Association's leadership determine whether enough support exists to continue operations after 2025.

The membership form has an optional question where you may choose to indicate areas of significant experience that you'd like to share in support of our school and its graduates.

Alumni with prior membership may use the form to update their address, as well as to indicate interest in sustaining the Association.

Thank you for helping us celebrate the Tigers of yesterday, today, and tomorrow!

We are saddened to report the passing of Pamela Lipscomb Gardner '73. Pam returned to Wilson to serve as its librarian for many years, during which time she also served on the board of the Alumni Association.

Pam worked with students and alumni to produce a multimedia historical presentation on the 50th anniversary of the school's 1968 desegregation -- a project which foreshadowed the renaming of the school for a teacher and a principal of that era.

Memorial services for Pam will be held 11 am Monday, October 30, 2023, at Zion Baptist Church. visit ziondc.org for Zoom login details.
