Our Association serves all alumni of Tenleytown's high school, which opened in 1935 as Woodrow Wilson Senior High School and became Jackson-Reed High School in 2022. We are pursuing an identity update to recognize our newest fellow Tigers -- the students and graduates of Jackson-Reed High School. Carter Barron was the venue for one class's Commencement ceremony.

Who remembers that year?

Music is returning to the historic venue, as organizers bring it back to life for three nights starting Thursday with the help of a temporary stage and some familiar local performers.

INFORMATION FOR ALUMNI VISITORS

Welcome back to the School as we help celebrate the 90th anniversary of the first graduations!

Please enter at the Auditorium lobby (formerly known as the gym lobby) on Chesapeake Street between 10 am and 11:15 am. Several activities are happening in the building, and we’ve arranged to reduce conflicts with other groups.

• Saturday test prep classes are being conducted on some floors, so please don’t go exploring on your own.

• New students and families attending the Enrollment Open House will be visiting the School in the Atrium (formerly courtyard) starting at 9 am.

• Wear comfy shoes! Building tours begin at 10:20, 10:40, and 11:00 from the auditorium lobby and conclude in the stadium lobby, where copies of the Beacon from various eras will be displayed. From there, you’re invited to cross the hall to join others in the Atrium. Elevators will be available for those requiring them.

• At noon, principal Sah Brown and others will offer welcoming remarks.

• Please help us conclude the event by welcoming incoming students with a rousing “Go Tigers!”

• After 1 pm, alumni may continue re-connecting at Guapo’s on Wisconsin Avenue.

If you haven’t yet done so, please be sure to update your alumni contact information while you're here.

Thank you for joining us!

We can’t close out March without recognizing some of DC Public Schools’ award‑winning student journalists ✍🏽

For more than 90 years, the Jackson‑Reed Beacon has been telling the stories of our district—earning the Tigers the nomination of “Most Likely to Win a .” 🗞️

Beacon Seeks Your Stories Ahead of April 25 Anniversary Celebration

NOTE: Due to a technical issue, the link to the Beacon’s questionnaire has been updated. If you had trouble connecting before, please try again using the link shown below.

Alumni of all years are invited to an open house marking the 90th anniversary of the School’s first winter and spring graduating classes.

We’ll meet at the Atrium at 10 am Saturday, April 25, 2026 to reconnect, reminisce, and honor 90 years of Tiger pride.

Students will lead morning building tours. Principal Sah Brown and other officials will greet attendees at noon, followed by an appearance by the Jackson-Reed Jazz Ensemble.

Beacon staffers will be on hand to capture oral history remarks from visiting alumni. Whether you can attend or not, please respond to the Beacon’s alumni questionnaire, which doubles as the alumni RSVP to get a headcount for alumni tours at the celebration.

Please visit the Beacon’s questionnaire (and RSVP) by April 21 at this link: https://docs.google.com/.../1J0zm1d76jvQT_f0IY1.../edit, or use the QR code shown here -- it's fuzzy, but it works. You can respond to questions from student journalists who are collecting alumni memories for a special year-end section of the Beacon.
