Serve Your City

Serve Your City is a Washington, DC-based non-profit that serves as the Ward 6 hub for . Together, we are marching proudly toward Liberation.

Operating from a model of solidarity, not charity, Serve Your City/Ward 6 Mutual Aid coordinates efforts among organizers, passionate members and volunteers, and dozens of grassroots organizations to create sustainable communal support from within Black and Brown communities in DC and beyond. Through providing programming for at-promise youth, promoting healthy communities, and empowering our neighbors to ensure their voices are heard, we show up and work tirelessly every day.

Each week, our volunteer encampment outreach team distributes meals from our community partner , along with sunscreen, socks, hygiene supplies, water, and other essentials to neighbors living in tent encampments across the city.

‼️ Last Thursday, May 14, neighbors from across gathered with at Foundry United Methodist Church for a screening of Storming Caesar’s Palace as part of the Demanding Dignity: 2026 Economic Justice Film Series.

🎬 The film highlighted Ruby Duncan’s fight for guaranteed income and economic justice through welfare rights organizing and community action. Following the screening, attendees joined a community panel discussion while also honoring Ruby Duncan’s life and legacy following her passing on April 26.

🎬 Save the date, ! 🎬 ’s “Demanding Dignity” 2026 Economic Justice Film Series continues on Thursday, May 14, with a screening of Storming Caesar’s Palace from 5:30–8:00 PM at Foundry United Methodist Church (1500 16th St NW, DC).

📲 Join us for free food and fellowship, a screening of the abbreviated version of the documentary as seen on PBS, followed by a panel discussion featuring film director Hazel Gurland-Pooler and Ms. Sondra Philips Gilbert, DC community leader and daughter of welfare rights activist Ruby Duncan.
