Had the honor of moderating a panel with the legendary Iron Major James Capers Jr. (one of only 97 Black Americans ever awarded the Medal of Honor), Black America’s Attorney General Ben Crump, Manny Piñeiro, and Chris McPhee of the BLK OPS Foundation©️ at the 10th Annual Military Influencer conference. Was also humbled to be recognized as one of this year’s Mighty 25 military-affiliated leaders across America influencing with impact.

Last week, Professor Cornell William Brooks, Harvard Kennedy School Hauser Professor of the Practice of Nonprofit Organizations and 18th President and CEO of the NAACP, debated Dr. Kevin Roberts, President of the Heritage Foundation and a key architect of the Project 2025 on the role of diversity in higher education and American life. In his closing remarks, Professor Brooks noted the legacy of Charles Hamilton Houston, veteran of World War I, in the arc of building a more just and equal society. 🫡 The full debate is now streaming on YouTube.

Black Veterans Project is publishing a special-edition print publication to serve as a narrative intervention and organizing resource in recognition of our nation’s semiquincentennial.

Dark Green Report will showcase writers, visual artists, and photographers whose work explores the complex history of Black military service, themes of memory and repair and uplift the voices of Black service members, veterans, and military families.

Contributors will receive a $250 honorarium for each published piece or series. Submission deadline is August 2, 2026.

Join Black Gotham Experience and Black Veterans Project this Saturday from 3 to 5 pm at Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City for Battle in the Margins Writing Workshop. Open to students, emerging writers, and professionals, this series of writing workshops invite New Yorkers across all five boroughs to grapple with the Revolution’s contradictions – a fight for liberty in a society where enslavement remained legal. Through thought-provoking prompts and community dialogue, participants will explore themes of freedom, displacement, and identity in Revolutionary-era New York. Register at the link in our bio.

With generous support from Liberation Ventures, Black Veterans Project is publishing a special-edition zine, narrative intervention, and organizing resource in recognition of our nation’s semiquincentennial.

DARK GREEN REPORT will showcase writers, visual artists, and photographers whose work explores the complex history of Black military service, themes of memory and repair and uplift the voices of Black service members, veterans, and military families.

In celebration of America’s semiquincentennial, is launching a limited series podcast, “250 Years of Servitude,” hosted by , bringing together BVP co-founders to trace their paths from military service to reparative justice work, and interrogating what our nation’s multiracial democracy requires of Black veterans today.

In episode four, BVP co-CEO challenges how the United States frames war and military service, making the case for how the fight for repair is a battle for the soul of our nation and the dignity of Black veterans.
