Come join us as we bid farewell to Matzah and celebrate the end of Passover with Mimouna!

Mimouna, a traditional festival celebrated by North African Jews on the last day of Passover, marks the return to eating chametz (leavened foods) and a celebration of spring, fertility, hope and renewal.

Mimouna festivals are also a historic space for the gathering of Muslims and Jews!

Come gather with us to celebrate, learn more about Mimouna, and feast on an array of yeast-filled treats.

Register to join us on Thursday, April 9th at 7:30 pm to share in this tradition: https://forms.gle/iPsmyrWQPnMVNhRE8

Location details will be provided via email within 72 hours of the event.

The Abrahamic House invites you to an afternoon of gimbap-making and conversation about the challenge of forgiveness. Gimbap is a popular Korean dish where rice and various fillings like vegetables and egg are rolled together in seaweed.

We are gathering on Palm Sunday, a day when Christians remember Jesus entering Jerusalem. While many people expected a leader who would use force to settle old scores with their enemies, Jesus arrived as a messenger of peace. This day reminds us that letting go of a grudge is often harder and more courageous than seeking revenge.

Join us for an afternoon of rolling, slicing, and shared reflection. As we learn to roll our gimbap, we will talk about the “work” of forgiveness in our own lives. We will look at stories and verses from Christianity and other traditions that capture the beautiful, frustrating, and essential role of forgiveness in our world today.

This event will take place on Sunday, March 29th at 3 pm

Location details will be provided via email within 72 hours of the event.

Naw-Rúz, literally “new day” in Persian, is the traditional Persian New Year celebrated by different communities around the world and across faith backgrounds for thousands of years, mostly recently among Baháʼís. Rooted in Zoroastrianism, Naw-Rúz marks the coming of spring and celebrates the beginning of new life being breathed into the atmosphere after the long, cold winter. An opportune time to discuss nature and spiritual renewal, for this Naw-Rúz, Abrahamic House will be hosting a brunch and discussion session on “Nature and the Divine Springtime” with our community members. Come join us for a riveting discussion and break bread together to mark the beginning of the New Year.

🎭 Our Purim and Ayyám-i-Há Masquerade Ball at Eighteenth Street Lounge might just be our biggest event so far this year! With over 80 community members joining in for dancing, a lively Purim shpiel, and shared festivities, it was a joyful celebration of two unique holidays.

While Purim and Ayyám-i-Há spring from different origins, they share a vibrant spirit of community and hospitality.

✡️ Purim celebrates Jewish survival and continuity with the retelling of the Book of Esther. Dressing up and wearing masks symbolizes the “hidden” miracles in the story. A central part of the fun is Mishloach Manot, the tradition of sending gifts of food and drink to friends to ensure the whole community joins in the festive meal.

⚙️ Ayyám-i-Há marks the “intercalary days” of the Bahá’í calendar. It is a period of abundance, hospitality, and gift giving as a lead up to the nineteen day fast.
Both holidays highlight the beauty of bringing people together to share meals, give generously, and celebrate the strength of our diverse communities.

Swipe through the pics to see the best masks, the most creative ‘fits, and the hamantaschen that disappeared way too fast!

A community is only as strong as the joy it shares. We are opening our doors for a night of collective celebration, and the guest of honor is you!

We are taking a page out of the "accomplishment cake" trend to honor your latest chapters, big or small. Whether you finally unpacked the last box in your new apartment, ran your first 5K, got a promotion, or managed to keep a houseplant alive for a whole month, we think that deserves to be recognized. Even if there is no "new" news and it is simply your birthday or the anniversary of a special event, we want to celebrate YOU.

You bring something to show or share: We invite you to bring a photo or a physical object that represents your win. We’ll have the cakes ready for you to add your milestone and join in the celebration. This isn't a networking night or a formal lecture; it’s a community gathering where your personal progress is the main event.

Come as you are, share your news, and let’s find joy in one another's growth.

This event will take place on Thursday, March 12th from 7 pm - 9 pm

Location details will be provided via email within 72 hours of the event.

Our living room was full this past Friday as 60 guests joined us for Friends, Forks, and Iftar.

Ahead of the event, our Fellows invited the community to join them in the fast, and it was moving to see many take up that invitation to experience the day in full. To set the atmosphere, our Fellows draped fabrics from the ceiling and arranged pillows on the ground for seating, creating a warm and welcoming space for everyone.

We spent time listening to Quran recitation and learnings from Yunus, who helped explain the verses and their significance to Ramadan...and we were grounded in those learnings when our founder, Mo, shared a powerful reflection on how the fast builds compassion for those who fast every day out of circumstance rather than choice.

Mo also shared how, growing up in Yemen, his mother divided their Iftar meal into three portions: one for the family, one for the neighbors, and one for those in need. It was a beautiful reminder of our responsibility to take care of all our neighbors.

A special thank you to Katie C. from Center DC for her help in bringing this evening together. From the reflections and prayers to the shared plates, it was a night of profound connection. Thank you to everyone who made this evening so meaningful.

Our 'Loving Friendship' Pal-entines event was a sweet throwback to the days of elementary school Valentines, with a deeper focus on celebrating friendship. 💌✨

Over the weekend we gathered with 20 community members to explore how our diverse faith traditions view friendship as a catalyst for spiritual growth. Between sipping chai and sharing bagels, we got busy with the craft supplies.

Our fellow Ellen taught us the art of tissue paper bouquets, and we spent the morning writing and decorating letters with stamps, stickers, and classic heart doilies. 💐✂️

Robin led a beautiful reflection on the sacred value of friendship, reminding us that these connections are what truly help us grow. Whether we were making new friends at the house or mailing love to those afar, the room was full of heart.

Thanks to everyone who joined us! 🕊️🥯
