Focus. Aim. Grow. 🎯🏹
Every one of our campers and even our Facilitators got the chance to try archery, and for many, it was their very first time picking up a bow and arrow. And they did AMAZING! 🎯👏🏾
New experiences build confidence. New challenges build courage. Sometimes kids just need the opportunity to discover what they’re capable of.

Safe spaces. Stronger youth. Safer communities. 💙❤️

Another summer camp is in the books, but this has never been just about summer camp. 💛🖤
For one week, our young people from D.C., Maryland and Virginia had a safe place to simply BE KIDS. To swim. Fish. Learn. Laugh. Try something new. Build confidence. Develop leadership skills. Work through conflict. And most importantly, be surrounded by veterans, active duty service members, law enforcement officers, educators, and mentors who intentionally showed up for them.
When we talk about youth violence and what’s happening with young people in communities like Chicago, Baltimore, DC and cities across this country, we also have to talk about prevention.
What safe spaces are we creating?
Who is mentoring them?
Where can they go when school is out?
What opportunities are we putting in front of them?

Because we cannot only respond after something happens.
Sometimes prevention looks like a fishing pole. A swimming lesson. A STEM activity. A conversation with a mentor. A week away from everything. A new friend. Or simply having somewhere safe to belong.
SAFE SPACES. STRONGER YOUTH. SAFER COMMUNITIES.
This is Operation Heroes Connect. And this is the work. 💛🖤

Our reach continues to grow, and so does our responsibility. These girls are now part of the Operation Heroes Connect family, and we’ve committed to helping cover the next year of housing for the minor girls.

To our amazing Operation Heroes Connect 2026 summer camp facilitator staff, thank you for your dedication, your patience, and your servant hearts. Thank you for every early morning, every late night, every encouraging conversation, and every moment you invested in our youth. And to our amazing Youth Counselors, thank you for showing our campers what positive peer leadership looks like.
From facilitators to counselors you all led with patience, enthusiasm, and heart, and your influence made this week even more special. You didn’t just make camp happen. You helped shape futures, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team.
Job Well Done‼️
Thank you again to our 2026 Veteran Facilitator Cohorts for continuing to prove that service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. 🎖️❤️🇺🇸

Our 2026 Veteran-Led Youth Summer Camp team was so amazing that we have to take a moment to brag on these incredible individual’s that made it all possible.
From making sure kids felt welcomed and had a true sense of belonging from day one, to teaching them how to communicate in a professional environment, code switching, manage their mental, learning self-defense, explore STEM, practice teamwork, develop leadership skills, stay safe in and around the water, fish, resolve conflict, learn self-defense and anti-violence strategies, and understand what it means to be a young man or young woman of character in today’s world, this team poured into our campers every single day.
Behind every activity, every lesson, and every smile was a veteran, active duty service member, police officer, educator, nurse, and true mentor committed to helping these young people grow into confident, capable leaders.
