Advocating for Entrepreneurial development is nothing's new, however, for the sake of our children's future we can't afford to stop.

"Black entrepreneurship has meant opportunities for equality, equity and a vehicle out of poverty. Throughout the years, Black entrepreneurs have harnessed economic power to strengthen the Black community, create jobs and develop a voice to advocate for well-being of Blacks in America."

Parent Tip: Support and encourage your child's curiosity by letting them explore their environment with your watchful hawkeye, however, dont stifle their natural desire to learn about the world they live in. Be there and prepared to answer their many many questions. It is equally important for you to expose them to a variety of healthy experiences that support their full development.

There has been movement for years across this country encouraging entrepreneurial development for our children and youth. There is plenty research to support why doing so is important. The United States Congress knows this for sure. Check out the legislation that was recently introduced by the Congresswoman from New York. These are the actions and steps that matter especially for Black and Brown children and youth.

Summary of H.R.5253 - 116th Congress (2019-2020): 21st Century Youth Entrepreneurship Act

If you're lucky you may find a good Youth Entrepreneurship Education program operating in your community, but most of our children and youth, especially Black and Brown children have little or no exposure or access to any type of entrepreneurial development. This makes it even more important for parents to be proactive in helping their child develop entrepreneurialy. Keeping in mind that doing so is rooted in preparing your child for success by ensuring they are equipped with 21st century skills.

So, if a program is not readily accessible to your child, as a parent you can at least provide your child with an early advantage by helping them learn the language of business and building their business vocabulary.

The success of our children depends on how well they develop social skills which are tied to their intellectual ability. Children can be taught from an early age to positively and respectful interact and communicate with people.

Despite the idea that many adults hold that children should stay out of grown folk conversations; healthy adult conversations can have a positive impact on a child's social skills. Good social and communication skills will greatly improve their entrpreneurial experience. Try having your child sit in on conversations between their parents and other adults, listen, and ask questions. Be sure to take a balanced approach not every conversation is for a child.

Try incorporating the business vocabulary words from the book, The Entrepreneur in Me: How Hakeem Became an Entrepreneur into your next conversation to help your child development the language and skills to fully function in this business oriented society. Teaching children early how to become entrepreneurs, really means helping them see how their ideas can help them take control of their own destiny, rather than taking their first job and when it changes and goes away, they are left to deal with it and hope they can find a new one.

One of the many great benefits as a parent in exposing your child to entrepreneurship is the opportunity to learn things they may never learn in school — whether it is simply putting up a neighborhood lemonade stand, launching a landscaping business or developing a new app — your child will learn about budgeting, saving, spending and investing.

Give you child the advantage they deserve. The Entrepreneur in Me: How Hakeem Became an Entrepreneur is a good first step and foundation that builds your child's business vocabulary. Grab your copy today, available on Amazon at the link below:

Think back to your childhood and reflect on how much you could have benefited from being exposed to entrepreneurship as a child. If you actually were exposed to it, think about how much it has helped you become the person you are today. There is tremendous value in being involved in entrepreneurial activities during a child's early years, as a parent you would only be equipping your child with necessary skills and an alternative mindset for them to create a happy, healthy, and prosperous life.
