Fight For Children was created three decades ago when our founder Joseph E. combined his entrepreneurial spirit and business expertise with a commitment to improve children’s lives in Washington, DC. Since that day, Fight For Children has continued to rally leaders throughout the DC region’s business, education, government, and philanthropic communities, generating more than $70 million in support

of DC’s youngest and most vulnerable residents. Today, Fight For Children is harnessing the collective power of youth sports for social good. Together, The Fight For Children Institute, Fight For Children Sports Medicine Center and Fight For Children's Annual Gala embody the mission, vision and values of our late founder, and our commitment to underserved children in the region.

Sports become a classroom for confidence, leadership, and self-belief. Together with we’re creating opportunities for young people to explore, grow, and thrive.

Through our Early Access to Sports program at Garfield Elementary, students are discovering new sports while learning valuable life skills through 2-4-1 Sports’ TOP Self (Thinking On Purpose) approach. By helping children recognize how they feel and empowering them to move toward how they want to feel, TOP Self teaches self-regulation, resilience, teamwork, and confidence in a way that sticks.

Because every child deserves the chance to play, belong, and become their best self.

An 8-year-old girl was told she was the top prospect for a travel soccer team. When they mentioned she wanted to try lacrosse too. Suddenly, they weren't interested anymore.

That experience inspired Steve Boyle and his wife to create 2-4-1, built around a simple belief: Life's too short for just one sport.

Today, their work helps young people develop confidence, resilience, friendships, and social-emotional skills through play, not pressure. Fight For Children is proud to partner with organizations that put kids' growth first. 💙

Joe Hooks, Program Officer at Fight For Children, talks about impactful moments that stayed with him.

It was a child remembering his name. A high five. A hug. A simple moment that became a powerful reminder of why consistent support matters. When young people know they can count on caring adults, trust grows. Relationships grow. And what starts as a program becomes something much bigger: a community. Every interaction matters.

Every child deserves someone who shows up.

What happens when the people supporting kids finally get a moment to breathe?

Bryan King from Kids on Ice DC shares how mindfulness, reflection, and intentional space helped him release stress and return more focused for the youth he serves.

Sometimes supporting kids starts with supporting the mentors too. 🤍

A new sport. A new experience.
A new environment where they feel seen, encouraged, and capable.
At Fight For Children, every moment is bigger than the activity itself.
It’s confidence being built in real time.
It’s courage replacing fear.
It’s children discovering they can do hard things.

We can’t expect our youth to build resilience if they don't have the tools to fight back. And we certainly can't expect them to heal if the adults guiding them are running on empty. Thank you to all the incredible minds who were part of our latest Collab space.

Watch these young athletes take the mic to trade post-game shout-outs and lift each other up. THIS is what the game is all about!

We are incredibly proud to see this level of sportsmanship through the Top Self program. Partnering with for our Early Access to Sports program means we get to build character, confidence, and community for our youth.

Drop a 👏 in the comments to give these kids their own well-deserved shout-out!

Last week, we brought together leaders from across the youth sports ecosystem for our Member Engagement Collab Space, and what emerged was powerful.

Through honest conversations and shared experiences, we explored what collaboration really looks like, why it matters right now, and what coaches and organizations need most moving forward.

This it’s a step toward building stronger systems, deeper partnerships, and better opportunities for young people across our region.
