Fight For Children was created three decades ago when our founder Joseph E. combined his entrepreneurial spirit and business expertise with a commitment to improve children’s lives in Washington, DC. Since that day, Fight For Children has continued to rally leaders throughout the DC region’s business, education, government, and philanthropic communities, generating more than $70 million in support of DC’s youngest and most vulnerable residents. Today, Fight For Children is harnessing the collective power of youth sports for social good. Together, The Fight For Children Institute, Fight For Children Sports Medicine Center and Fight For Children's Annual Gala embody the mission, vision and values of our late founder, and our commitment to underserved children in the region.

Every number is powered by our Youth Sports Collaborative, and on November 4, we're celebrating it at the Game On Gala. It's not your typical gala: there are no assigned seats, the room is built around sports competitions, and the whole night is about impact.

The game came to the kids at Garfield Elementary that day. The mission is to keep bringing more opportunities to more kids. Coach Bryan King told us that "you don't see kids this side of the river actually getting an opportunity to access (sports)".

Transportation. Finances. Access. For many kids, these can be the barriers between them and a sport they’ve never had the chance to try.

Thanks to ’s Kids on Ice program and , the kids at Garfield Elementary got the chance to pick up a stick, play the game, and learn from Proffesional coaches.
And a special thank-you to everyone who took part, including Karl Alzner.
Because when access grows, so do the possibilities.

This summer, 30 coaches said yes to something new.

Watch the recap from our first-ever FFC Coach Education Pilot Cohort, coaches from across the DMV coming together for three sessions built on one idea: you can't pour into young people from an empty cup.

From the virtual kickoff, to the in-person training day, to our closing reflection circle, this cohort went beyond technique. It was space for healing, community, and showing up for each other the way we ask our coaches to show up for kids.

The result: 100% of coaches agreed the cohort helped them grow. 100% would recommend it to another coach.

Take Fight For Children out of the picture and 40 youth sports organizations across DC go right back to operating alone: no shared coach training, no shared funding, no shared support system.

Right now, we back 40 organizations serving more than half of DC's school-age kids. This is who we are.

Because at the end of the day, our mission it's about a child's positive development.

What an impactful day! Youth Sports Day 2026 brought together 2,335 attendees, 37 youth sports non-profits, and many sports to try for free!

The event generated 4.39M estimated views through earned media, helping extend Fight For Children’s mission to 45,000+ youth through our network.
