RANDOM ACTS OF GRACE KIBERA 2026 – JULY HONOREE 🇰🇪

Because Everyone Deserves Hope
This July, the Sparrow Youth Ambassadors are honored to present the first Random Acts of Grace award to a deserving resident of Gatwekera Village, Kibera.

For more than 20 years, this hardworking mother of four has faithfully cared for her family despite significant financial challenges. Through perseverance, sacrifice, and unwavering determination, she has continued to provide for her children while quietly serving as an example of strength and resilience within her community.

At her request, she has chosen to remain anonymous. We are grateful to honor her wishes while celebrating the impact of her inspiring journey.

As part of this Random Acts of Grace Initiative, Sparrows Landing Global Inc. is honored to provide the following gifts to help ease some of the burdens she carries:
● One year of monthly rent payments.
● One year of monthly electricity bill payments.
● One semester of secondary school fees for one child.
● Payment of outstanding school fee arrears and the remaining Form 4 secondary school fees for another child.
These gifts represent more than financial assistance, they are an expression of God's love, compassion, and hope, reminding families that they are seen, valued, and never forgotten.

This recognition reflects the mission of the Random Acts of Grace Initiative, to bring hope, encouragement, and tangible support to individuals and families throughout the villages of Kibera through the love of Jesus Christ.

Today, we celebrate Theresa Barnes, Founder and CEO of Sparrows Landing Global Inc., whose unwavering faith in God, heart for service, and commitment to restoring hope and enriching lives have impacted countless individuals and communities around the world.

Through her vision and leadership, Sparrows Landing Global has served vulnerable populations across the United States, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, and beyond, empowering youth, supporting families, feeding the hungry, mentoring future leaders, and bringing hope to those often overlooked. Her dedication to answering God's call has transformed lives and inspired others to become agents of change in their own communities.

For four days, our Ambassadors came together for the “My Village, My Story” Community Leadership Project—starting each morning with early discussions and learning sessions on how to respectfully approach individuals, engage communities, ask meaningful questions, and listen with purpose.

Many of these young leaders had never visited villages outside of their own. Together, they stepped beyond what was familiar and walked through the villages of Kisumu Ndogo, Marananta, Kianda, and Gatwekera, gaining a deeper understanding of the people, stories, culture, strengths, and challenges that make each community unique.
They saw. They learned. They listened. They grew.

We are excited to share each of their project videos as they use their voices to highlight the stories and hopes of their communities.

🌍 Project Update: My Village, My Story Series

What began as a community leadership project has become a life changing journey for our Sparrow Youth Ambassadors.

For many of the Ambassadors, this was their very first opportunity to visit villages outside of the one they call home. Although they all live in Kibera, many had never stepped foot into neighboring villages such as Kisumu Ndogo, Marananta, Kianda, or Gatwekera.

As they walked through each community, interviewed residents, and listened to personal stories, they discovered that every village has its own unique history, strengths, challenges, and culture. More importantly, they realized that true leadership begins with understanding people beyond your own neighborhood.

This experience broadened their perspective, strengthened their compassion, and deepened their commitment to serving all of Kibera , not just the communities they grew up in.

These young leaders are proving that when we listen, learn, and connect with one another, we build stronger communities together.

We are incredibly proud of our Sparrow Youth Ambassadors and can't wait to share the stories they've captured.

My Village, My Story: A Sparrow Youth Ambassador Project

This week, during their midterm break, our Sparrow Youth Ambassadors aren't just taking time off—they're stepping into leadership!

As part of the "My Village, My Story" Community Leadership Project, the Ambassadors will be exploring their villages, interviewing residents, documenting community strengths and challenges, and learning firsthand what it means to serve and lead.

From Kisumu Ndogo to Marananta, Kianda, and Gatwekera, these young leaders will be sharing the stories, history, culture, and hopes of their communities while identifying opportunities to make a positive impact.

We are proud of these future changemakers as they use their voices to inspire, educate, and advocate for their communities.
