Last week, 22 Girls Gotta Run Athletic Scholars traveled to Addis Ababa to compete in the Women’s First 5K 💫

Our largest group ever—and a powerful moment of visibility, confidence, and community. For the first time, girls from Soddo and Bekoji came together, building connection and sisterhood across programs.

For many, it was their first time traveling beyond their hometown. Their first time racing in a major city. Their first time seeing what’s possible beyond the boundaries placed around them.

This is why we run. 🏃🏽‍♀️✨

Every scholar in GGRF’s program receives a full sports kit: Running shoes. Shirt. Shorts. Socks. And yes, a properly fitted sports bra! Because without the right support, running can be painful and discouraging. With it, girls can move freely, fully, and confidently.

For girls growing up in Bekoji, with dreams larger than the hills that surround them, running becomes more than a sport.

Even when the world feels like it’s on fire, they run toward something more.
This International Women’s Month, Girls Gotta Run Foundation presents a new film following Athletic Scholars as they leave the quiet roads of Bekoji and travel to Addis Ababa to compete in the Women First 5K carrying with them their dreams, their stories, and the reasons they run.

GGRF is excited to announce that we have been recognized for our work by the
, a program of the , and will receive
funding and organizational support to continue breaking down barriers for girls.

Together, we will empower girls through our signature Athletic Scholarship program which combines academic support, running, and life skills development to help girls build self determined futures. Our holistic model focuses on girls from low socioeconomic backgrounds who are at risk of school dropout, teen pregnancy, and early childhood marriage.

Girls are powerful agents for change, and we are pleased to collaborate with the Girls Opportunity Alliance.
