Thank you so much, Senator Brenda Stanley, for making this happen and thank you to Oklahoma Senate Republicans for your support and sharing this story!

Senator Brenda Stanley, R–Midwest City, secured Senate passage of Senate Bill 1644 this week. The measure directs the Commissioner of Health to add alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) to the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s official list of reportable diseases and conditions.

Alpha-gal syndrome is an allergy that develops after a tick bite and can cause serious reactions to red meat and other animal products, including dairy and certain medications.

Throughout her work on the legislation, Senator Stanley has heard from Oklahomans whose daily lives have been significantly impacted by an AGS diagnosis.

Stanley said the bill is an important step toward improving awareness and understanding of AGS across the state. She expressed hope that adding the condition to the reportable diseases list will support increased research and improve access to care for those affected.
