Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day — and it is a poverty issue.

1 in 6 older adults experiences abuse, including financial exploitation that strips seniors of savings, homes, and dignity. Older adults in poverty face the highest risk.

Today: the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

CCHD invites you to see the world as Christ sees it — and let our hearts be moved by what moves his. Faith in action for the hungry, the oppressed, the lonely, the marginalized.

That is the heart of our mission: https://www.povertyusa.org/learn

Last year, 1 in 7 American households were food insecure.

That is not a shortage of food. It is a shortage of justice. Hunger is tied to wages, housing, healthcare, and the policies that decide who gets to eat.

CCHD-funded groups work on all of it: https://www.povertyusa.org/policies

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." — Psalm 139:13–14

Every person carries inherent dignity. Not earned. Not conditional.

That truth is the foundation of CCHD's mission.

Thank you for walking with us through Mental Health Awareness Month.

The conversation doesn't end on May 31. Poverty is a complex web — housing, wages, food access, dignity — and CCHD-funded groups are pulling at every thread, every day.

Ending poverty starts with action — and there are more ways to help than you think.

Volunteer with a CCHD-funded group. Support a local co-op or business. Donate to a pantry or start a food drive. Help a student afford college. Write your representatives.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the sacrifice of those who served our country and to recommit to serving them in return.

Veteran homelessness, poverty, and lack of mental health resources remain serious challenges. True honor means action.

CCHD supports community-led efforts that address the root causes of poverty for all those who have served.
