You're invited to something special!

Finlandia Foundation NCC and FinnSpark are co-hosting an evening with author Maria Bouroncle on May 20th.
Her book — The Girl with a Name Tag: The Story of a Finnish War Child — tells the true story of Finnish children sent alone to Sweden during WWII, carrying only a name tag. It's a piece of history that deserves to be known and remembered.
Maria will share her story, sign books, and we'll have light refreshments. Come as you are — this is a casual, welcoming evening for anyone who loves history, Nordic culture, or a great story.
Wednesday, May 20
6:00 PM — Refreshments & book signing
6:30 PM — Author talk
McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave, McLean, VA 22101

📚 Happy World Book Day! Today we celebrate the power of books to inspire, connect, and transform. World Book Day is a UNESCO initiative that reminds us of the importance of storytelling—and we’re marking the occasion with something special.

Meet the Author of "Gentle Power" at our upcoming Finnposium!

In honor of World Book Day, we’re launching a special sale on Gentle Power by Dr. E. Elisabet Lahti—an inspiring book on the Finnish concept of sisu: quiet strength, grounded resilience, and purpose-driven leadership.

LIVE Q&A | May 21 | 10 AM PT | Zoom
Join us in one month for an exclusive live virtual Q&A with Dr. Lahti herself!

This event kicks off our brand-new virtual book club series, and we couldn’t imagine a better way to start. Dr. Elisabet Lahti will share her journey—from healing through hardship to her epic solo trek across New Zealand—all in pursuit of understanding sisu. Learn how this uniquely Finnish mindset differs from grit and resilience, and how you can cultivate it in your own life.

📖 Read it with us!
We’ve partnered with North Wind Books at the Finnish American Heritage Center to offer Gentle Power at a special price—just in time to read along before the event.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during the live session. Free with registration — but spots are limited!

Whether you’re into leadership, personal growth, or Finnish culture—this session is for you.
