Late last year, we reached a settlement agreement with the Georgia Board of Elections that requires the board to conduct business through official .ga.gov government email accounts. That was a major win for transparency: It makes it possible for an open records officer to search official emails for responsive public records without interference.

But last week, the board revealed an unofficial .com account that’s still in use.

We need answers.

NEW: Internal emails we obtained, first reported on by the Washington Post, show ICE cut training by 75-80% for local police making immigration arrests. Originally a four-to-five-week course, the training was slashed to a single week.

The emails reveal ICE cut instruction officers most need to understand people’s rights and legal status, including training on nationality law, immigrant and nonimmigrant classifications, and removal charges. They also removed training on scenarios that officers might face in the field.

ICE has spent $16.7 million on shock gloves. Through a FOIA request, we obtained the Army’s 2024 report on the gloves.

It shows the gloves are designed to inflict severe pain. What it doesn’t show is whether there are lasting health impacts.
