Tigray Development Association in North America (TDANA) held its successful annual event on July 16, 2026, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Opening Remarks and Executive Report

Dr. Kidane, Chairman of TDANA, opened the annual meeting by welcoming members, invited guests, friends, and donors. Isayas Abaye, Secretary of TDANA, then presented the annual executive report, highlighting the organization’s accomplishments during the year as well as the challenges it faced.

Financial Report

Following the executive report, Mitslal Girmay presented the financial report, which outlined funds raised and expenses incurred during the year. The report included contributions for rehabilitation projects, support for internally displaced persons and refugees, and medical expenses for wounded and disabled Tigrayans who received treatment outside Tigray.
The financial report also showed that expenditure exceeded funds collected because TDANA began implementing projects that had been delayed due to the genocidal war.

Remote Learning Project Update

Dr. Solomon Abraham, who chaired the remote learning project, also known as the TELU project, presented the project’s status via Zoom. He expressed heartfelt thanks to the many sponsors whose contributions helped make the project successful and shared key findings from the completed two-phase project.

Discussion and Member Engagement

During the question-and-answer session, members and participants raised important questions and offered suggestions on how to strengthen new-member recruitment and reenergize chapters.

Board members assured participants that all suggestions would be taken seriously and that every effort would be made to increase membership and strengthen chapter engagement.

Lunch and TDANA Night

The half-day meeting concluded with a lunch sponsored by the Philadelphia support team.

TDANA Night, held at the Lancaster Warehouse Hotel, was warmly attended. The event reflected the enthusiasm and joy of the community, and attendees enjoyed dancing to music provided by DJ Ashu.

Official Statement from the Tigray Development Association in North America (TDANA)

TDANA wishes to address recent misinformation and speculation concerning the organization’s Mekete fundraising efforts and the involvement of certain community volunteers.

For many years, Meaza Gidey has dedicated an extraordinary amount of personal time, energy, and effort in service to the people of Tigray and the broader community. During some of the most difficult and painful moments facing our people, she worked tirelessly and selflessly to mobilize support, organize outreach efforts, encourage community engagement, and amplify humanitarian initiatives intended to assist those affected by crisis. These efforts were undertaken voluntarily, without compensation, and with a genuine commitment to the well-being of the community.

As part of these broader community efforts, Meaza served solely as a volunteer supporter who assisted in outreach and mobilization related to the Mekete fundraising initiatives. She had no role in collecting, managing, administering, overseeing, or accounting for Mekete funds, nor did she have access to TDANA’s internal financial operations related to these activities.

Any allegations, rumors, or insinuations suggesting otherwise are false, unfounded, and inconsistent with the facts.

TDANA deeply values the contributions made by volunteers who have dedicated themselves to supporting Tigray during times of immense hardship. We recognize that the spread of misinformation can cause significant personal harm and undermine the spirit of unity and service that has sustained our community.

We therefore encourage all community members to refrain from spreading unverified claims that undermine the genuine effort of volunteers to help the people of Tigray and to engage responsibly and respectfully as the organization continues its efforts to help the people of Tigray recover from the devastating war and rebuild their lives.
