Women’s History Month is a time to recognize women who overcame prejudice and social limitations to show there is nothing we cannot do! The Washington Section, NCNW is highlighting one of these amazing BLACK WOMEN each week this month to bring more attention to these change-makers.

This week we are highlighting:

Sheila Johnson

Sheila Johnson is a businesswoman, philanthropist, and author whose ventures have shaped the landscape of African American culture. Her most notable venture is as the co-founder of BET. Those in the DMV also know her as the founder and CEO of Salamander Hotels and Resorts. It comes with great pride to say a luxury hotel brand in our area was created by someone who looks like us.

“Don’t ever lose sight of who you are and your own power”
-Sheila Johnson
